Coolant Problem....with video

well sadly enough i'm not that mechanically inclined nor have the necessary tools to check for a cracked head or replace the gasket

so i guess my question is now, how long do y'all think it will take a ford dealership to check and replace?

Im dropping my truck off monday morning but they said they wont be able to get to it till tuesday but if they can they'll start monday

you should have it back by wednesday at the latest friday but ford is usually pretty quick about things... and the gasket isnt that hard for a trained ford tech to do

You might want to get an estimate from the stealership before they touch it- those places are for warranty work only. You'll find out why when you get the bill. It is actually much cheaper and faster to just replace the engine with a low mileage junkyard unit than paying someone else to do head work. www.car-part.com and find someone who can help you swap it. The cost of an engine and several cases of beer is cheaper that what they are going to burn you for- and you'll get it swapped in a day if the guy isn't TOO drunk...

With a Ford dealer to do the work, I say give them a week or more. Their tech's do other jobs in between.

From the sounds of things so far, either A. You still have air trapped in the coolant system, or B. Its the dreaded cracked head/gasket.

I was quoted around $1,500 to replace the head gaskets from A FORD STEALERSHIP. This was on my 1996 ranger.

Not as high as I was thinking... $1500 is cheap for a stealership. I'd get a quote though- it might be nasty.

$1,500 PLUS tax!! But yea that was over the phone and was assuming my GASKET was bad or blown, I did not ask about a cracked head quote but assuming it would be close to the other quote plus the cost for a used or new head.

well havent posted in awhile but update is.....

almost Whole new motor 0 miles, straight from the factory...bill=4500

dealership broke it down saw cracked head, small cracks in head gasket, and told me the bill would be about 2500-2700 to fix OR buy new motor 0 miles from factory and reuse as many salvageable parts and be around 5000

so called the parents cause im in college and dont have alot of money and we decied we would talk about it the next night...before that night came my parents called the dealership and told them to get the brand new motor which gave me 2 reactions.... and

mainly because i knew a few places could get good cheap complete motors for around 1000 with 20/30 thousand miles if not less....or i could got a motor out of a junkyard and had it cleaned up and stuff

anyways they go ahead and fix my truck and turns out i had a CRACKED BLOCK...so kinda good i guess my parents went ahead and got new parts

im extremely happy that i got my truck back im like a new kid again...best part is that i got the dealership to come down 550 bucks since they had it for so long and they reused some parts

the only downside is that i just dont feel like my truck is MY truck anymore, just feels different, just feels dirty and almost as if another person has raped my truck, it just doesnt feel like the same old truck it used to be....but maybe im the only one to experience that kinda thing

Wow... That's why I seldom repair an engine for a head gasket- just replace it with a junkyard unit. You'd be surprised how many are available many with low miles. I swap 'em for $400 labor so for about 1K it could have been done in a day. But good deal, new motor. Have fun breaking her in!

try a compression test and see if u have a leak,, u should have around the same pressure in each cylender, or pull the plugs and see if any of them look different..bet u gotta bad gasket

Read two posts up from yours..he already replaced the whole motor...the block was cracked.
