Alberta Canada lift laws?

hey guys, i've been looking for Canadian lift laws... anything to do with specifics to suspension modification, body lifts, height of lights, bumpers and i can't find nothin!

I ain't from canada but my girlfriend is, and im trying to figure out if they'd even let me in the country with my truck after i finish it cause it'll be 6" suspension, 3" body, and 35" tires. so something along the lines of 14" above stock i think.

SO, a push in the right direction would be greatly appreciated

i know one big thing out here is if your tires stick too far out of the wheel wells that definently a bigger one, if you have a receiver hitch make sure the ball hitch part isn't it or sticking out further than the bumper and that your exhaust is some what legal, what province are you going to? alberta i presume? then i wouldn't worry everybody and their dog has a lifted truck out there

In Alberta if there is any laws about it the cops don't do anything about it. With tires they will bust you if they want to. Best thing to fix that is to have some type of wheel flairs. If it will pass a saftey then I would not worry too much about it. Its more about the DOT.

ok, sweet thanks guys! yeah i already had a cop get after in WA about my tires sticking to far out, so i got bushwacker cut out fender flares... they stick out like an extra 3.5" or something past what i've got right now, so i'll be good on that!

yeah my exhaust passes specs down here, i might be putting a different muffler on here pretty soon, but thats it. and yeah i'll be goin to alberta. To Raymond, by lethbridge... i guess its like 45 mins from the border or something. my gf was saying she doesn't see any lifted rigs in her town haha, so i'll rollin through town like a sore thumb

Oh, thanks for the tip on reciever hitch, i do have one that sticks out past my bumper but i'll pull it out and stuff it in my tool box.

1. Enough flare to cover your tires within reason (2" or less sticking out is generally ok)
2. Mudflaps, cover the width of the tire, and to the center line of the axle.
3. Headlights under 55" to center. This one shouldn't be an issue for ya.

Aside from the flares/flaps there isn't much you'll get pulled over for other then having darkly tinted from windows.

Cover the tires, mud flaps help. All the lights work, no tinted windows. That's about it. Make sure it looks safe and all will be well.

how much of a tint are we talking on the windows? cause mine are but not definitely not darker than 20%... not sure what they are cause i bought it with the windows already tinted.

ok, sweet thanks man. yeah they can still see my face, i almost re-did the tint too... had some guy qoute me at 160 to take the old stuff off and put the new stuff on, at like a 10% tint which aint even legal in the states.

AFAIK they can only bust you if the tint you’re running is darker then your local law. That said I’m running 28% and my local law (Manitoba) is 35%, and going through Alberta/Saskatchewan I did not get pulled over once, key is to not give them a reason to pull you.

Im from Lethbridge and the cops dont do much. My ranger is not overly tall but the tires stick out pretty far and so far I have only got a no mud flap ticket. My jeep has dark tint on the windows is jacked up high and the tires stick way out the side and the cops ignore it. The only time they bug you is during seat belt check stop season and that is in the spring.

Tires wider than the fender/flares is BS in Alberta, too. The law reads nearly identical here in Saskatchewan. It says "64(1) A motor vehicle or trailer must have a part of its body, a fender or a mudguard that covers the width of each tire."

I bolded the important part. It's OR. Translation -> not required to be all 3 of them. If your mudflap covers the full width of the tires, but the fender doesn't, then it's legal.

Don't expect to argue this with a cop, though. I haven't found a cop or an SGI employee yet who has even this little amount of reading comprehension in their pea brains. I was going to take the ticket/issue to a judge, but they wanted to set the court date into mid summer of 2010. For all I know, I won't even be in the country by then, let alone in Sask. Ended up just paying it.

well i'm just lookin to make sure i keep my nose clean when i'm up there especially as i may end up running 37x14.5x15 toyo M/T... yes i finally found some! Gonna pay out the ass for those tires though, like $1300, but i spent the last couple hours looking for em haha.

Most time's in alberta just about anything will slide past, RCMP, Royal canadian mouse patrol let most stuff pass. they are to busy checking out the donut shops. But the sheriff's department are the sticky buggers.

as long as your tires are not sticking out to far, windows are not tinted to dark on the driver and passenger side windows, you should be okay. reciever hitch not more the 10 inches past your back bumper, installed while not in use.

there are more lifted trucks sitting in the dealers lots then cars on the road. alberta is truck country.
