Like the title says, I need help. I just replaced the spark plugs and wires yesterday in my ranger. I used the basic autolite spark plugs and the autolite wires. I pulled one off at a time, so I wouldn't get them mixed up.
The problem is: When I accelerate, it feels like the truck is missing. It won't accelerate or takes a while to accelerate. I had the problem with my camaro a few years ago and it was the distributor cap. But my truck has a coil pack, and I don't want to replace that just yet.
So, my question is does anyone have a picture or diagram of how the wires plug into the coil and spark plugs. I am very frustrated because it has just started after I replaced them yesterday. Any advise would be helpful.

did u put spark plug grease inside the boots? does it idle funny? did you make sure all the wires "clicked" into their respective parts?

No I did not use the grease inside the boots. It does sound like it has a hard time idling sometimes. I did make sure they clicked. I also found a wiring diagram to make sure that they are all matched up properly. I guess another option is to remove the plugs and wires return them. But then what should I buy?

See if you can pull any codes. If your check engine light is not on doesn't mean is ok.
Also check your fuel pressure as sudden drops due to a fouled filter or a bad pump may contribute to this situation also.

Did you really check the wire layout and don't mix up where each cylinder is its easy to kinda assume and get mixed up.The reason I say that is because it sounds like 2 are missing and that means usually a mix up so go over those till you feel stupid doing it.What else can happen is as your trying to start the plug the tip loads full of grease ect. and they short accross or the plug is banged and smashed shut but you sound to careful for those two.If you put the lub on your wires they come apart later a lot better.

you may of got a plug cross threaded in the head. Did you change plugs when completely cooled down or while it was warm.

I did completely check the layout of the plugs. But I did change the plugs when my engine was warm. What can that do to it???

I called the auto parts store today, and told them my problem. I have decided to return the plugs and wires, and purchase the motorcraft plugs and wires from them. The part #s are WR5872 (wires) and SP432 (plugs). I am also going to make sure I get the 2 little packets of grease and the electrode stuff. Motorcraft is OEM so it should have no problems, and if there are problems then I know it is something totally different. Thanks for all of you guys help.

The engine block expands when hot it may be hard to take the plugs out.when you change the plugs to motorcraft and if it still does the same thing i willhave some more info. i took my truck to someone and they change while it was hot you never change anything while hot.

Thanks dangerranger2008. I will post back with more information this weekend, because that is when I will have the time to change them again. Thanks to all.

If you are noticing hesitation/misfire/bucking above 3000 rpms that is a sign of syncronizer failure. Does the misfire start at higher rpm and drop as the engine warms? Can you get to mis-fire in park (not hit the rev limiter)? Do you have belt seal that seems to come and go more with ambient tempature (ie surrounding temp) vs actual block temp? Have you pulled the seprentine belt and ran motor for a minute to see if the squeal is the belt or if its there when the belts off? These are all signs of syncro failure.

i wouldnt be suprised if you find one of the wires has a spot blown out on it. i replaced my wires last time and they did good for a day and then it started to miss and ran on 5 cylinders. one wire completely blew is side out and wasnt providing spark to the plug. sorry for the misfortune!
