Coil spring nuts

How did you guys get the nuts that hold down the coils on a TTB front end off??? i cant get mine broke loose, ive been soaking them in ATF and used 2 extensions and my impact and still could get them broke loose!!! any ideas what else might work?

I dropped a impact socket down the spring from the top then a wobbly then a extension. Then a Cheater bar. Then on the cheater bar a 3 foot pipe. I could move the nut about 1/16th of a turn. I also wire bushed the threads clean. and applied heat prior to using all of the above.

Getting the threads cleaned out is important so as you start backing the nut off you aren't piling in more dirt/rust into the nuts threads and making it harder to turn.

took me just over 2 hours to do them on my truck. 95 in harsh canadian winters all its life as well... What i did was soad them with liquid wrench, also wire brushed as much as possible. grapbed a big 1 1/8 wrench, and went to work, put it on and pushed with my foot, about a half turn then work it back and forth that half turn squirt more oil and repeat till i made it all the way up, they were so rusted it was the only way, other then that, the rust would build up to much and wouldnt turn.

a bit of heat, 3/4 drive and then one of these babys, snap a 1/2 bolt no sweat.

I've had to use heat, but always with good success. I had more issues with the stud - after rounding off the nut with the 1 1/8" wrench, grinding it down for the 1 1/16", rounding it off, and finally grinding it down to where I could just barely hammer on the 1" wrench, upon which time I broke the box end of the wrench.

Easiest - Get an acetylene torch and heat it up until that bolt is literally glowing cherry red. Comes off like it was freshly greased!

What can work - a basic propane torch. I propped mine up so it would just blast on the nut and I just left it for several minutes. Took a bit more effort, but it did come out alot easier than without it.

I tried the 3/4 inch ratchet and that didnt work, ill have to get it with some heat one of these days at work.

thats a 3/4 to 1 inch reducer drive i can tighten 1/2 inch nuts down till they strip or break. and if you don t got that a 4 foot snipe on the end of that 3/4 and some heat. and again becarful, i started a shop on fire years ago. not fun

We used a 1/2" breaker on the impact socket. Used the the bar between coils (Skyjacker lift coils). Used a short piece of pipe and let my son loose for a day. My son, the offensive lineman football player, didn't like me for a few days... I put them back and they weren't easy.

I really want to get one of those "Earthquake" type impact wrenches.
