Which 5.8 is it ? It could be either a 351M or a 351W.

The 5.8 liter EFI are nice. My bro in law got and f-250 with one for free, truck runs and drives. I dont think it would be to hard as long as evrything can bolt up. Wiring is no biggy.

yes which 351 is it, im going to lean towards a modified myself but ya never know

Grab all the parts you mentioned, and you'll need the O2 sensor(s) and harness (not sur eif it's a seperate harness like the Mustangs). Grab the MAF sensor if they run one.

I asked if W or M & he said neither. On the top it says 5.8 HO, just like on the 302 plemun to where is says 5.0 HO.

So is it possible he has an HO 351? Or is there another way to actually find out which one it is?

There was no 351 HO EFI except for the Lightning 351.(mid 90's) There was a carbed 351HO, basically just a 4 bbl intake and carb added to the std 351W. I don't think the carbed 351W HO was in an 83 though. (could be wrong)

It might not be original though, my brother blew up a 5.8HO at work in a '85 F-250... that originally came with a 300.

The 5.8L H.O came along in 83, and makes more power then an EFI 351.

There is no point at all to switch it. A good off road carb and you'll be just as far ahead.

There is no way its a Modified, the Modified went out of production in 82.

The 351W H.O was more then just a 4bbl carb on a 351. It had a hotter cam and roller lifters.

later,
Dustin

:sorrysign: NO, no , no. The only roller 351's were the 94-97's with EFI. And they had way more power than the 80's HO 351. If you drove one, you'd know this.

I know a guy who has a "351 H.O." in an RX7 with a T-5, some sort of cam (not a letter cam), and a 4bbl. It made 147 Horse at the wheels, and I have no idea what it came out of. I'll guess a roller 302 (5.0) would have made closer to 200 with the 4bbl and headers.

Dunno what had been done to it, but the 351HO that my brother blew up didn't blink at lighting up a 33" mud tire in second (creeper tranny) on its way to death row, he thought it ran pretty good, better than the 302/5.0's that got the same fate anyway.

The 1980's 351H.O.'s were all Windsors. The was a Cleveland version back in the early 70's.
