Looks like i've got a wasted lower ball joint on one side, and I can't seem to find out if the whole arm has to be replaced, or if there it is possible to replace just the ball joint on a 2001 4wd? Thanks in advance for your help.

Lower ball joints on both sides can be replaced. The upper ball joints on both sides are replaced with new upper control arms with a ball joint already in them.

Thanks for the help. Do you know which part would be the best bet to replace the ball joint on an OE arm? I'm looking at rockauto and there's alot of options, such as a MOog problem solver? thanks again.

Moog is just about as good as it gets. however, unnecessary for street usage.

Yeah, im just offroad every once in a while in Mexico to the beaches. Is it alright to just fix the one side? I may have heard something like the new one will go out fast or something to that effect.

Typically you would want to replace all the ball joints and get an alignment, because if one is out the others are too far away from goin out either. But in your case if you are just replacing the lowers then you should be OK with doing just one. However, IMO i would replace ball joints top bottom left and right.

Unnecessary for street use? :icon_confused:

MOOG is top quality, but I don't see how it has anything to do with street use vs. off-road use. I've never heard of "off-road" ball joints.

I am looking at replacing my ball joints with MOOG parts this week.

Like WID said, replace all of them at the same thing. That's what i'd do anyway. Since you have everything torn apart you might as well save yourself the time and do it all.

Thanks for all the help. That's what rockauto was telling too, to do everything instead of getting 2 alignments and extra work. Im gonna need a friend to help me out, and he's not looking too thrilled about even doing the lower one-must be a pain to do with just a floor jack. Maybe i'll just get all the parts, and make it a surprise. thanks!

Good luck and buy beer, just not too much of it til you're finished....lol. And yes do them all at once as said by others...they are almost toast too and you'll save time and money in the long run.

I bought Moog control arms and lower ball joints, and they are finally getting installed this weekend. :D.... Question; do i need to worry about the control arm bushings? Somebody mentioned to me that those are part of the job, but the three times my truck has been on a hoist the ball joints were noted, but nothing about needing bushings. Is it standard practice to press new bushings if I'm getting the UCA's done because of the balljoints?
