1354 loose output

I have a manual 1354 and the output flange on it is pretty loose. I was wondering if there is a way to fix this?
I tried to tighten the nut on it but it is out of the truck and i cannot tighten it...

If not is is possible to swap everything from a electric 1354 into my manual one?

Does it move up and down, or in and out? Not all the internals are the same between the manual and auto case, but most are. The output bearing would be the same though. If there is play in and out, the case may be damaged at the snap ring groove that retains the ouput shaft bearing. You should split the case halves and check it out. It is not very complicated.

Lock it in 4wd, lock the front output in a vice, tighten the rear output nut.

I know....old thread, but rather then start a new one i figured i would latch on to this one. My rear output of my 1354 has play up/down. I can push on the driveshaft and make it clunk. You are saying there is a nut to tighten this bearing behind the flange? Can i do this with the T-case in the truck?

Radial (up-down or Side-to-side) play means either the bearing or the case is buggered.

In-out play PROBABLY means the pinion nut is loose
But if it's that loose your speedo probably isn't working because the plastic gear is moulded to the spacer sleeve that is only held in place by tension of the properly tightened output flange

So if you have a 1994 or earlier, with in-out play AND your speedo still works you have a major problem.

On a 1995-up the speedo is electronic and gets it's signal from the rear axle.

Well mine is up/down side/side, ive always figured the bearing was on its way out....i was just hoping there was a way to tighten it. If not...how big of a job is it to replace the bearing?

I can remove it easy enough....I had it out this spring to do the clutch. I am thinking i will just run it till it blows up then buy another one off craigslist though lol. It might last forever....who knows.

Soo I have a similar issue/question? I just started to hear a hum noise at all speeds, coming from the rear end/ below me. I jacked it up put it in nutral and had a assistant rotate the tires. I went under the truck to listen for the noise and to me it sounds like the output shaft bearing is going, the noise sounds like a bad wheel bearing. Now im about to pull my driveshaft and possibly the transfercase to get a better idea. I was just curious on all yall opinions. thanks.
