My rear shackle hangers are starting to rot out. I was thinking instead of replacing stock for stock, why not convert to a "normal" style shackle hanger. I'm thinking of building a frame extension from the bottom of the C bracing up to the side of the frame and mounting a shackle hanger underneath so I could use a standard shackle and also get a little more height out of it. Good idea, bad idea? I'll try to paint something up to get my idea across...

Sorry I was to busy looking at your avatar to actually read your post.

rear shackles?

Exactly what I wanna do. some questions. Did you box the frame or otherwise strengthen it? Did you make the main "plate" go under the bottom of the frame? It's kinda hard to tell from the pics but it looks like 5/16 plate with 1/4 braces and a jeep front bushing mount?

Also, nice d-shaft did you do the work and how do you like it?

EDIT: HOLY CRAP! What kind of leaf bushing, if any, is that?

just some big angle iron, welded all the way around, if i did it different i would of put plug welds in. Nothing to strengthen the frame, will be putting my front cage foot into it, otherwise i would make an x-member. You may not need anything in the rear.... it doesnt have the stress of steering box. the hanger, i just went to a spring shop and had them roll me a spring end 6" long out of some mild steel (better welding to mild than leaf material). Yes d-shaft is home built... works fine, ive had it up to about 60mph and it crushes rocks.

look at the picture again, there is bushings... what you're looking at is the second leaf twisting in the Military wrap.
