This truck they claim it need a timing chain. Is the late model 4.0 the type that makes piston to valve contact when the timing gets off? I would like to look into this but I wanna make sure its a good investment.

If it is the SOHC engine and the timing chain is bad the engine is
probably a paperweight.

When the tensioner guides go the chain slaps around and I've actually one or two where the chain chewed it's way to daylight before it finally "failed"

If the pistons hit the valves the engine is suddenly worth $0.05/lb

It should well be worth $500. Go look at it and see for yourself.
