gas milage

Maybe that is our problem. We should start just driving the hell outta them I guess.:icon_twisted:

Mine's got 170k and I drive the piss outta it... So did the guy before me... I usually average between 16-20 mpg (depends on how much stop and go I drive)

Good point, that had not occured to me!

Gotta Vette for that, though. The Ranger is a better worker!

I've got a 2003 FX4 4 door with the 5 speed automatic (and 4.0 SOHC) - Weighed it on a heavy-truck scale, 4200 lbs with just me and a full tank of gas. Worst I've ever managed was 10 MPG (I wanted to see how fast it would accelerate - uphill), the best was 20.78. Seems to be very related to how I drive it, if I push the throttle down smoothly, it gets much better mileage than if I move it quickly. It also doesn't seem to have any more power once the pedal is about halfway down, although it does manage to use a LOT more gas. I just got this thing 2 weeks ago, really enjoying it.

A few days ago I drove from ND to CA. Averaged 18-20 driving between 75-80 except through Yellowstone (everybody in front of me was doing 40). Coming down I80 from Nevada towards California I managed 22.8mpg. 5 speed, 4.10 rear end, 4x4

averaged 18.75 mpg on my first tank of gas. 60/40 hwy/city driving. that includes a bit of playing in the woods too

my best was 280 with 4x4 373 gears 4.0 and im 17 so i like mashing it every where i go but i kicked that habbit :P

Maybe that's starting at the top of the Rockies, headed down?

Nope, it's all city baby! I think on that particular tank, I did about 100 miles worth of "night cruisin'", on roads I know well. No traffic, timing the lights, and going 45 mph at about 1500 rpm helps. Probably the equivalent of doing 45 on the highway.
But I normally get 320-340 city anyway, even in rush hour conditions. Sure beats the 200 miles per tank, 12-14 mpg I was getting when I first got the truck. I was still driving the same way I drove my ZX2, and that wasn't cutting it. After a year of owning it, I have the characteristics of the truck and the ways to maximize fuel economy mastered, and my last dozen or so tanks I've been averaging 19-22mpg.
I have only taken her on the highway once, for about 100 miles. I'm really curious to see what numbers I can pull off on a whole tank of highway driving....

y aknow u guys shuldt talk miles per tank, its very different per vehicle, my truck maybe get 270 a tank and thats 18 mpg, i got a super cab and i still got the small tank, its a lot easier and less deceiving for everyone to stick to mpg not per tank
