Ahhh! Help! I have a big leak!

It was raining really hard the other day when I discovered a horrible leak.

Here are the pictures, yes the dark colored areas are where water had sepped into. They didn't stay dark though, once the water dried the darker areas returned to normal, but still, if it keeps happening I may start to get discoloration. I DON'T WANT THAT.

I'm guessing it is the outside rubber on the window. It does not appear to be loose in any way, but I guess it seeps through somehow. What should I do? Is this something I can fix by myself?

Thanks for any help, btw, has anyone else experienced this?

Could be the rubber or it could be a seem...we've had a few guys on here that found the seem between the metal wasn't sealing properly and they fixed it with a sealer...can't remember the name of the product recommended, but I think it was Wicked_Sludge that posted the latest one...

I had a bad leak too last summer (mine dripped down the window to the carpet and ruined it before i knew tho) and we too the wholoe back glass out and resealed it and that didnt help so we took the thrid break light out and that where mine was leaking..try the light first..would be lots easier than the window.

i ahd the problem with my 98 with a slider in and i jsut got sum el cheapo clear silicone caulk form wally world and did the third brake light thing and the top of the window rubber and it dont leak anymore

exact same thing happened to me. the back glass started to separate from the cab. i just had the back glass replaced (needed it anyway) and it fixed it. if you wait too long your headliner will start to mold. happened to mine. got it recovered though

yep when that chit starts to mold its horrible...my carpet was ruined from it.....talk about some smelly stuff.

Mine did this when I replaced the rear window, and it didn't do it before, and I'm pretty sure I didn't put enough sealer in there. I thought it was enough at the time, but apparently not.


Keep in mind, I don't think regular cab's used any sealer. I think those just use a rubber seal type. Ext. cab's though, are bolted in and use sealer.

EDIT that rubber molding you see on the outside of the window, from what I saw, has nothing to do with keeping water out. The sealer is back behind that on a different surface.

Not only does it smell but it's very hazardous for your health. I remove residential mold for a living and my work uniform consists of a hazmat suit and a respirator

a non slider uses a gasket while a slider is bolt in and uses a sealer.

mine is a solid window, but it has the bolts. at the factory they use this gummy rope stuff, that is almost like silly putty. that is what the bolts are for. replacement ones use tar sealer stuff (that you cant get off white paint!!!)

BTW I have the non slider, full glass, and whenever I check the outside it never seems like water can seep through that rubber thing around the back window, I've never thought to take a look at the brake light though.

Oh and one last thing, it only happens when it rains REALLY hard.

i used clear silicon when i did mine

adhesive sealant.

Some pretty darn tough stuff. it comes in other colors, but I always just taped off the paint....... layed a good bead (wax paper or the like over my finger so it doesn't grab)
then let it dry, be extra carefull with a razor to (score) it along tape line, and peel it up.

That is definitely from the brake light. I wouldn't even bother using anything on the back window, just put some silicone on the light as stated. I promise that will fix the problem.
