I found a cat-back dual exhaust system from LMC truck and was wondering if it was any good. It uses resonator tips and ive never heard of them before so if someone could shed a little light on this it would be much appreciated. :icon_confused:

Well I haven't heard of LMC exhaust systems, but i do know that Heartthrob makes a dual exhaust kit that uses resonation tips. From what I can tell you, the Heartthrob exhaust system has a nice deep mellow sound. Its not to loud at idle, but when u open up the throttle you can hear it. Im pretty sure the Heartthrob system sounds close, if not exactly like the LMC system. For sound, I truly think that pipe diameter size makes a big difference. If u wanna upgrade your exhaust system, try going with 2.25 inch to 2.5 inch pipes. Trust me, it makes a world of a difference from your stock pipe size. You can find the Heartthrob Dual Exhaust system on www.autoanything.com , Its not that expensive. Hope this helps.

Resonator tips are either another chamber or like a small glasspack to quiet the exhaust a little. OTOH, if the resonator tip is ALL there is for a muffler, then it will be pretty loud, especially if you have headers and no cat. I know this personally...'80 Blazer, 350 with Blackjack headers and '79 Camaro Z-28 resonators for mufflers.
I have a spare chrome resonator tip (AutoZone, $24.95) for my Sport Trac that I put on in the winter so as not to muck up my nice Gibson tip or to make it a teeny bit quieter if I'm taking a long trip with the wife so she doesn't bitch as much about the noise.

How can yo be pretty sure Heartthrobs and LMC's sound similar if you never heard of LMC exhaust.

thanks for the help i dont want something to loud seeing how this is my DD. I found a gibson cat-back system that looked nice but the tubes were only 1.75" are those pipes big enough to get a deep sound and more power?

What is the best system in terms of power gain then?

None really. Almost all (Gibson, magnaflow, dynomax, ect) performance mufflers are a straight through design.
I really like AeroTurbine mufflers, they flow great, sound great and are pretty mellow when cruising.

i got the duel exhaust it sound pretty good but i wanted it a little louder so i replaced the tips with straight pipe

I have a cat-back system on my 97, that is y-piped into duals with resonator tips, sounds good, and not to loud in the cab, much better than the glasspack i had on there before

How are the flowmaster 40 series mufflers? My local muffler shop recomended them.

do what i done, just cut the muffler off :D

aslong as you have 1 cat its legal

If it only came with one cat... one cat on a two cat system is just as illegal as no cats at all.

No muffler (or too loud of a muffler) is a another ticket, and a great excuse for a cop to pull you over and check out your exhaust for emissions compliance as well.
