has anyone on this forum fiddled with putting a 16v dohc volvo head on their 2.3? seen it done, just wondering if anyone here has expeirence with this head swap.

I would be interested in hearing this as well. I would never get around to doing it. But, it seems to be a great upgrade and not to dificult to find the parts. I have seen a lot of volvo's in the junk yard.

Theres a reason why theres a lot of volve's in the junk yard........they're junk.

There maybe a lot of Volvos iin the junkyard but 90% of them don't have the correct engine to pull the head off of...

That's where you are wrong.

The volvo DOHC head flows far more than any of the 2.3 heads, including high dollar aluminum race heads.

exactly, they have a slightly smaller combustion chamber, but flow a lot more. I just bought a pc1 computer from a mustang svo for the turbo swap!!! here i go!

I'm just saying volvo's are junk period.

Don't make generalizations like that.

Our family has owned 5 different volvo's, a couple of them the same model. All years ranging from 1975- 1994.

Each car has ran over 250,000 without issue (one to 300,000). They are safe and very reliable, maybe not the best looking but that's personal opinion.

If I was to drive across the country, I'd hop in the volvo long before I would take my ranger.

I'm just saying if I was given a volvo I would sell it for a harley or a 4x4 ranger. Or if not I would give it to my brother-in-law to run in a demolition derby. Just my opinion.

well unless u have owned one or driven one, i wouldnt be so fast to jump to conclusion about them. from wut i hear they are very reliable cars.

extremely reliable cars, and the safest safety record to go along with it. they might have looked like a dogs butt for a long time, but they look good now to go along with the reliablilty.

I'm just saying a volvo would be one of the last vehicles I would ever buy. Not saying they aren't safe or reliable or other bad stuff I just have no desire to ever own one. I've ridden in one and it was nice and quiet and such but even my friend said that he wish he had a different vehicle but it was given to him so he couldn't complain to much.

i have seen a mustang with the 2.3 turbo with dohc head but i do not remember wut it was off of

I asked a couple turbo guru's why go to the trouble of adapting the head to the 2.3 Ford, just use the complete Volvo engine. I was told that the bottom ends were junk, and could not withstand modifications to get to the desired power levels. Never owned, one, so don't know.:)shady
