I was thinking something along that line to seal it up. But the kicker is that the Rancho's I plan to use have the body on the bottom, rod on the top. So I need something to seal on a 7/8" dia shaft then be able to open up and fit a 3" dia shock body. I have an idea on how to do it. Just need to get the parts to do it.

what about outboarding the shocks (like the setup posted by 87xjmike), but make a taller wheelwell so that the entire body of the shock is "outside"? then just have the crossbar "inside" so that you can weld where it pokes through.

i dunno, i may be way off here, but it sounds good

In theory it sounds easy. I'd have to modify my rear seats or loose them completely. I could get a fold and tumble seat like in Jeeps but I will loose the flat floor that the stock setup provides.

Why would you waste your time and money with gas charged ranchos? If their not charged you can mount them invertedly. I'd wate untill you can afford a nitrogen charged shock that can be mounted invertedly w/ at least a 2" diameter, fox, king etc.. Do it once

I'm not. I already have the Rancho's and they work pretty darned good....on the front anyway.

I meant waste time and money fabricating something to work with the ranchos. What are their lengths? If they're super long then it might be worth it if your planning on getting a better shock down the road. I've played around with a lot of shocks and it is a night and day difference once your willing to step it up to a 2.5" body shock.
It can in most cases mean a 20-30mph increase in your top speeds off road. My top speed went from 60mph to 80mph through a whoop section after i stepped it up to some decent shocks.

The rancho's i have are the RS9000XL's. They have a 7/8" dia rod and a 3" dia body. 9 position adjustable, gas charged. On the front axle I am running 14" travel front position 12" travel rear position. On the back axle I have 10" travel. I can swap the rear 10's for the front 12's and not have a problem.

I'd love to go bypass shocks but it's just not in the budget. I'm trying to get this thing to "Go" with run of the mill stuff. I'm always upgrading as I go. If i had $15 000 to dump into the truck it would be done "Right".

If I had 15,000 to dump into my truck......I'd buy the prototype from ford with a 4.0 and pop out side windows for, lets say 4000, and then I'd dump another 6000 into some crazy suspension setup, and then i'd drop 5000 into some fake boobies for the girlfriend.

That's 15,000 right?
