Look again at the tag to see if there is a 3 in front of the L73. If there is it is a 3.73 with traction loc. It is not a 3.55 gear. The axle is an 8.8 and it was built in December 8 1990.

i agree with brett.the top row is the dana #'s for the axle.the only prob you have is does the tag belongs on that axle?

its hard to tell but looks like it has a 3 in front if it does than that would be a 373 limted slip 8.8 rear end right.

That is correct!

They're likely right.

If it was 3.55's, there would be a space between the 3 and the 55. ie.

3 55 not 355

FYI i think thunderbird turbo coupes came with 3.55 and 3.73 LS diff's.Dave R would probably know for certain though.

well i pulled of the rear cover and on the gear it says 355 ford so i guess that would than be 355 gears instead of the 373 i thought .does that sound right .

after cleaning up the tag that was on the rear it now reads 2l73 88 9m08

If it says 2L73, that would mean that it originally came with 2.73 gears and a limited slip. VERY common for a fox-body mustang. If the ring gear says 3.55, then obviously someone swapped a different gear set in. Unless they swapped carriers, it should still have the l/s carrier.

how do you know if it still has the l/s carrier. cause both gears say 355 so i know i have 355 gears now.thanks again for the info.

The pictures you posted in the other thread are of a 8.8 with an l/s. If it indeed was from a mustang, it would be 28 spline.
