i love the ranger but i kind of want something bigger. im interested in something that can fit 5 people confortably. im looking into possibly a four door truck that has 4 wheel drive. what do you guys think. even if its not a ford truck im still willing to look into it. manily looking for more room and ok mpg and something that will last.

thanks

I'd get a F150 4x4, not the FX4 version. My dad bought an 08 4 door F150 and you can sit 3 adults comfortably in the back. There's plenty of room for a road trip.

i like the colorado. its got more get up n go than a ranger and its not a Ford.

If you want to go the jap route
Nissan Frontier crew cab with a 6' bed
4.0 liter 261 hp 6spd manual or 5spd auto.

+2 on the Sporttrac it's basicly a four door ranger. With plenty of room for five people.

Exactly what Duggo said, they ride like a damn cadillac.

hows the mileage on the sports track? i may possibly lift the truck that i get too. im open to toyota, chevy, and dodge too. how are the dakotas?

I love my Dakota. Lots of power and good mileage (15-16+mixed, 20-21highway). The 3rd gen quad cabs have good room, you can get the 4.7 or 5.9, the 4.7 should deliver 13-20MPG in a quad cab, I'm not sure if it's available with a 5 speed in the QC, the 5.9 will do between 12 and 18 MPG and the 5.9 was never available with a 5 speed, then again I'm not sure if they made 5.9 4x4s.. The 5.9 has a lot of aftermarket support if you decide the need for more power, plus it's a true mid size so the payload and towing capicity should be quite good, my truck is rated to tow around 7K and will take a ton in the bed.

+1 on the F150. My friends with the 5.4L V8 F150s match and sometimes beat my gas mileage.

Frontier may also be nice, but they have pretty short beds.

My cousin had a supercharged Frontier. The only problem with them is they are top heavy. My dad's F150 get's better gas mileage than my Ranger...

The generation of Dakotas you mentioned to the best of my knowledge was the generation of Dakotas where many owner's with the 4.7 were finding small amounts of coolant in their oil (forgot if it was at the oil cap or on the dipstick) due to faulty design. Was a common issue according to a Dodge forum but didn't hurt anything. Still, I decided I didn't want a Dakota for that reason.

As far as comfort goes the F150 is much more comfortable. Had a newer Dakota Quad Cab as a rental, it was an okay truck, back seat wasn't great though (headrests felt like they were made of plastic).
