How do I tell if the clutch is going???

I've heard if you let halfway off the clutch before you feel it engage, it means you only have 50 percent clutch life left? I have a 1993 with a hydraulic clutch. Any help or advice?????

Not sure if this is 100% accurate or not, but it worked on my other vehicle: with vehicle running engage the highest gear you have i.e 4th or 5th. With that gear engaged start letting the clutch out while holding the brake. If the vehicle stalls then clutch is still ok....somewhat I guess. If the vehicle does not stall after letting the clutch out then....well you know.

That might work if you have a non self adjusting clutch but a hydraulic clutch is usually self adjusting. But the only real way I know of to tell if a clutch is going is when it starts to slip.

yep, the only warning sign is when it starts to slip (it isn't just suddenly gone)

when you notice it going is when you accelerate from a stop and the engine accelerates, and you don't, or when you are driving up a hill in say 4th gear and when you try to put more power down, the engine goes faster and you slow down... once it starts slipping you can baby it for a while and get another couple weeks out of them until you get the time to fix them for the most part

Yeah I got about 3 weeks out of mine when it went, avoided the highway at all costs and used as little throttle as I could.

i went a year on mine before the enigne blew. if i leaned on it in 4th, the engine would rev, but the truck would slow down.

My truck's only a 2.3. I can floor it goin up a hill and it won't go any faster

yeah, but if the truck goes a constant speed and the engine speeds up, that's the clutch slipping, that's when you know it's toast...
