Last Sunday I was poking around under the hood of my new (to me) 2001 2.3 Ranger. I got to looking at the plastic resonator box attached to the air intake tube. I remember reading another thread here, and the conclusion was that it was just there to reduce the intake noise. I don't really care about intake noise so I decided to just remove it. An 1-1/4" PVC pipe cap is just the right size to plug up the hole and a new worm drive clamp holds it in nice and tight. WOW! What a difference. The throttle response is right there now. The only thing I can figure is that this chamber had a dampening effect on the air flow through the MAF sensor? I have been driving it every day for a week now and there is still a noticeable difference. I thought that the computer might re-calibrate it's self and go back to the way it was. If any of you have been planning on doing this, try it and I'd like to hear if you notice a difference. Brendan

what exactly u removed?? usually we remove the tube that goes from behind the headlight to the inside fo the air filter box, show some pics
:worthless:

On the newer 2.3's (2001-up) there are one and sometimes two plastic boxes tapped into the intake duct. These are supposed to dampen intake noise. It's just a big empty plastic chamber. This is what I have removed.
