88' Ranger 2WD Tranny Stuck

Whats up guys? Question, I've got an 88' Ranger 2WD that is sitting in my drive way and has been for some time. Awhile back I was driving in 5th gear, was coming up on a red light, tried to down shift but had no luck. My truck has been stuck in 5th gear for some time. Any thoughts of why and what my options are to resolve the issue. I was thinking that maybe my shift fork for was bent or broke and I would need to either rebuild my tranny (I've no idea how to do it) or get a new used one. Thoughts, suggestions?

same thing happened to me. pulled the old tranny for a used one i got for 300 bucks, got the old one out, put the stick back in the top of the tranny and now it goes through the gears. try putting the clutch in with the shifter out, and rolling the truck back, holding the truck back a little then putting the stick back in and see if it is back where it should be. mine was kinda dissapointing to see that, but it needed a new one anyways(it whined really bad)
