..or if you wife is one.

Brought this gargantuan thing home from the Greenhouse today. My teacher was allergic and was going to mulch it but he said I could keep it if I wanted to. No clue if my mother's allergic yet but if she doesn't want it I'll take it over to my grandmother's. The Chemistry teacher looked at me like I was stealing something as I drove into the back parking lot next to him, tossed it in the bed, and drove away.

But.. what the hell is it?

It's got these little spikes going up the leaves on the two edges and bottom center, facing towards the tip. They really grab onto you because the leaves are so thick and waxy.

That's one healthy palm there. Not sure exactly what type, but none of mine do that well (too dry here). I'll see if I can dig anything up for ya...

got a good pic of the trunk/body?

Looks like maybe a young fan palm?

Thanks for the quick responses. It's been in a greenhouse for quite some time is why it probably looks so healthy.

I think I might take it to my grandmothers but I dunno. It's way too big to keep indoors.

Aha! This guy definitely knows more than I do!

Well, since it is a rather large plant it has to be kept out on the porch.

I'm trying to propagate it using the little shoots at the base of the plant. I have two done up, since I'm not sure if the plant would do better in water or soil I'm doing one in water and one in some moist potting mix. Lets hope they work. I have them chilling out with my spider plant (easy) and cactus (not so easy) propagations as well.
