after looking into my ranger that i picked up a short time ago, i realized it is 4.0L and not the 3.0L that the guy i purchased it from told me it was...after looking into the history of the transmissions used over the past few years, i have noticed there is a few different ones for the 4.0L...my truck currently has a A4LD and after searching i have come to the conclusion that the newer 4R55E is better...now is that true and will this work in my ranger is there anything special needed from the doner vehicle, if it does so work

thank you...justin

Actually the 5R55E is a far better auto in the 4.0 Rangers.

To do this swap would take a lot of re-wiring, new wiring, and a PCM re-flash.

thanks for the info but will the 4r55e work..i have a few at my disposal very cheap and would like to put something stronger in the truck if possible

Are you against a manual? The M50d is easier to swap in and would be a stronger trans.

not really...the racecar is a manual...this is going to be a woods/rockcrawler rig when i am done...and dont want to have to use a hand throttle...and i am too lazy to swap it to a manual...if i go that rought i will swap in a cummin's 5.9L common rail with a 6spd with a bourge warner s380 turbo

just looking to keep it simple
