4.6 2 valve v8 in the new f-150 is it a good engine. i know its the base engine but im looking for a dd that will be able to tow my 94 ranger to the trails. and i want to know if anyone has any info on this engine how reliable is it?

my brother has a 99 4.6 had 99k on it when we intentionally granaded the motor to get it covered under warranty.. new motor has 75k on it and its still running strong. we beat the crap out of that truck too, towed a 10k trailer with it all the time it never let us down.. except for one time, but like i said that one was on purpose..:icon_hornsup:
that motor for some reason blew up after being set on redline for 300miles towing our trailer.. :icon_confused: i couldnt belive it lasted that long on the redline:icon_thumby:

They are good. My old man has one in his F150. I test drove a 5.4 and a 4.6 and the 4.6 seemed to have more torque. Regardless, it's a good engine, even though theres no replacement for displacement. :icon_thumby:

If it's the same 4.6 used in Crown Vics, then it's bulletproof. You'll get 400k out of it, easily.

same motor.. just different cam and upper intake to give it more torque.

cool thanks for all the responses sound like i will be getting the 4.6 i was worried i was gonna have to spring the big money for the bigger engine:yahoo: 4.6 should be plenty to tow my ranger my main concern was durability.
