12" vs. 10" sub

well, I have been convinced to step up from the Kicker cvt to the Cvr with dual voice coils. Now, the CVR 12" has a mounting depth of 6-5/16 inch. I would really prefer not to go that big. The 10" however, has a depth of 5-9/16 inch. What im wondering is, "is ther really that much of an advantage to going 12" instead of 10"?

they will give you slightly different sounds... i say slightly because i don't want to make it seem like the difference between an 8 and a 18 or somethin...

the 10 will be more punchier, while the 12 will be more looser and "boomin"

this also depends on the type of enclosure you use, etc...

if you can fit the 12", i say do it... you will probably get more looks rollin down the street.

also if you have the room to play with. your box can turn 12 punchy and 10 boomin.

another thing is sensitivity, the 10 is 85.5, where the 12 is 86.7 meaning the 12 would take less power to get as loud or louder than the 10 due to more cone area.

X2, it also depends on the sub itself, i had a 15" L7 that fit the stereotype very well, it got plenty boomy but lacked on any kind of fast complex beat. i have a 15" brahma in a 2.5 cube transmission line box that will keep up with anything i throw at it and want more. it can keep up with heavy double pedal bass lines, and in the next song, can get incredibly loud and flex the roof playing jeezy. some subs do follow the stereotype of smaller subs tighter bass, but then there are subs that shatter that myth, ie: 15" IDMax etc..

well, I want a punchy sub so I think ill go with the 10. Unless I can make the box wider which means cutting out the triangle shaped support thing on the back of the cab. Can i do this or should i just go for the 10.

GAH! my brain is all confused! should I go with the 12" cvt or should I go with the 10 inch cvr? Theres almost no way i can fit the 12" cvr in my truck with how much space i want to keep. Remember that the cvr's have dual voice coils and the cvt only has one.

I dont HAVE to go wiith kicker. I just only trust their name and i love the looks. Is there any better sub (same price range, relatvely shallow mount) sub that will fitmy bill?

dude im running two 10 CVR's in a sealed box with 400rms going to each and they are more than enough you'll be fine with one 10" CVR if you give it a good bit of power

this is the sub i run in my ranger, i have the 15" but the mounting depth on the 10 is 6.25 and 6.5 for the 12"

there meant for ported enclosures but accoridng to dj, can be used in a sealed enclosure, but are designed to take advantage of the efficency of a ported enclosure. at 129 shipped for the 10" its a very good sub for the money

holy crap! thats 600 watt rms on the AQ. What is the rec. enclosure space for that sub?

Ive been giving mine 800+ rms for a while now and my friend who had 1 was powering it with a rf1500 which is 1000+ at 2 ohms and it took it like a champ. not sure about box size for a ten but i can ask dj.

i have two 10'' cvt in my truck with a 2cf box, min cf for one cvt is one foot. its plenty loud and there punchy, and can do most low freqs they have trouble with some of the low low stuff but there 10s and i like them. and they can handle any song on the radio, but if you like really punchy, get a box less then1cf but no less then.75cf
give them a lil more watts rms then needed and dont give rides to people with pace makers.

he seems to like kickers as do i. they fit into that myth. im glad they do, cause it can give you more "options", if you like a type of sound but lack space

ok. so stick with the 10 cvr and not the 12 cvt? and have it about 1 cf?

out of the subs youve mentioned, i think the 10" cvr will be a good fit.
