My current grille on my 03 ranger has been fading pretty bad so i'm either going to paint it or get a new one. Does anyone know if someone makes a grille for the ranger that is similar to the harley davidson grille on the f-150? I think it would look pretty good with my painted bumpers. and also does anyone know exactly what color the ranger honeycomb grille is?

Thanks,
Alex

I don't know about the grill. But I did do a loooooottt of painting. I painted a new bumper and lower (originally red), my street scene mirrors and my hood with SEM Trim paint and it matched my grill absolutely great. I purchased the paint in a rattle can at a Carquest Auto Paint store and have seen it in a Sherwin Williams Auto paint store. I also used Bulldog Adhesion Promoter after properly preparing the surfaces. The adhesion promoter dries quickly and is self leveling. The job has no runs and was not sanded after prep. So they go on well. The paint job is holding up very well. I put about 90,000 miles on the truck since the paint job and there are large paiint chips on my front end in the factory paint than in my trim paint job. There are some very small dings but nothing like the factory paint. It also helps to get one of those rattle can pistol grips to reduce fatigue and easier application.:icon_thumby:

My truck is red too so what color would look the best?I'm thinking black or a real dark gray. Thanks for your help!:icon_cheers:

I'm partial to black. A titanium might look good, like a flat med. gray maybe. What color is your interior?

It is black and gray.I think i will paint it back to the factory color.Do you know what it is called?

I used the SEM Trim Paint. It's pretty universal for flat black trim. I matches my flat black grill very well.

I have to repaint my 2003 grille too.
Was thinking the color of the mirrors, dull back but with some texture but I don't think the texture will show up.
I vote for black then dark grey, although the SEM Trim Paint sound good, will have to look in to that.

all you gotta do is sand it then clean it then rattle can paint works great and its cheap

My truck came with all black trim. That trim paint really matches well. I don't have any stock in SEM, I just know it worked well for me. Good luck onyour adventure. Just remember, If you don't like it you can always sasnd it off and repaint.

You did this on the honey comb style grill? If so what did you use to get inbetween them and how long did that take? Seems like it would be very time consuming.

I have an '01 with the honey comb grill and it looks like shit right now, its all faded. I wanted to color match the white but just havnt yet cause it seems like a pain in the ass.

First off sanding is time consuming. I prefer a paint stripper and let sit 1/2 to 1hr and the paint just melts off. take it to your local carwash or use your own personal power washer and blow off the bubbly paint. once done you can than primer and paint. EASYILY DONE.................

^^would aircraft stiper work or will that just melt/warp the plastic? Any type of stripper you recommend or just any kind, same as the paint? I usually like Krylon primer and color spray.

yea cant remember name. you can find it at your local automotive store. also it wont warp the plastic.

Factory color for the 03 grile is actually a dark grey. Find a plastic dark grey, and it'll look stock. I painted mine so far twice...using John Deere Blitz Black. Stripper? no. lol. I cleaned my grille up, sprayed on 2 coats of Duplicolor adhesion promoter, then 2 coats or so of color. I removed the grille insert from the grille shell, made it really easy to paint.

What is this 150 grille you are referring to? 04-05 STX and 08+ sports have a bar style grille...but to run that in your truck, you'll need a header panel, some paint, and a new hood....
