Looking at getting another truck...

Why fix what aint broke?

Just remember, do NOT shift into 4x4 while moving, and make sure you back up a few feet after you shift back into 2wd to unlock them before going on dry pavement.

Personally i like my auto hubs, its nice not having to get out in mud/snow/water/sand and lock shit in.

But on that note when and if mine blow it'll have manuals.

Dustin

I like manual hubs better... besides, one of my auto hubs is missing a couple bolts.

These don't have shift-on-the-fly 4x4? Both of my 89 BIIs had that feature, I would have thought that a 95 F-150 would have... guess I'll have to keep that in mind.

in that picture I think I see 4 trucks:
The half ranger
the BII
the f150
and the f350.

had to, sorry...

:icon_rofl: I forgot I posted that question with the pic of the truck.

lol...wtf you talking about?

Duistin

When I posted the pic of the truck I asked the question of how many trucks could be seen in the pic....

I *think* you can shift into 4x4 with the auto hubs locked in while your moving, (as in shifting into 4wd, then going, then shifting back to 2wd but never backing up to unlock the hubs) but when you have to relock the hubs you have to be stopped.

I wouldnt try either one though.

Dustin

I'll just get a set of manual hubs on it and check the book, lol. At least I got the owners manual and such with the truck... too many used vehicles no longer have that stuff with them.

I didnt get the owners manual for mine.

I use the one from my 83...basically the same shit.

So yea.. started trying to fix my spring hangers today and the one bolt is well and good siezed up. Not having any luck at all getting it out so far... anyone got any suggestions (aside from taking it to a mechanic, the hanger completely fell apart when I started wrenching on the bolt)? I need to get this truck back on the road ASAP an it's ticking me off that I can't get the bolt out. At this rate I'll be replacing both back springs just so I have new bolts an bushings....

Grinder/sawzall.

heh... that's about the only thing I can think of at this point... got new bushings on order but no tellin now long that will take... guess that's why the guy was willing to deal, his mechanic told him what a mess that would be to change the hangers an he decided to unload the truck. An man, those hangers were holding on by only a thread or two...I cut both them off already.

I am pretty sure it is shift on the fly, but like everything else make sure your wheel speeds are the same front and rear. It doesn't like when the truck isn't moving while the rear wheels are spinning 20mph and you pop in it 4x4.

lol, yea I can imagine that wouldn't make good noises.

Spent a lil time trying to find the stupid buzzer for the keys in the ignition and disable it, but I'm not having much luck finding the stupid thing. I did discover why my radio sometimes just stops working or stops responding to pressing buttons though... I'll have to pull it today or tomorrow and get a pic or two, it's really beautiful work.... I never cease to be amazed by the hack-jobs people do when adding an aftermarket radio...

A oxy/acetylene torch will make quick work of the spring hangers. Just burn the bolts out and clean the holes with a punch and hammer. Then use a chisel and hammer to pry the brackets off the frame. The torch is also your friend for getting bushings out. Just put the flame on them till they are half melted and beat them out with the right sized socket and a hammer. Make sure you wear a gas mask when doing this because the fumes from the burning rubber/plastic of the bushings can be pretty intense.

I just did this same job on a 93 ranger and it took about 3 hours start to finish. This one was so bad the hangers were completely rusted through and the ends of the leaf springs were poking through the bed because the owner drove on it like that for a while.

Yep, the torch is my friend, although I use oxy/propane for cutting work like that, acetylene is just too pricey around here to use it for cutting all the time, it was like $80 to get my lil acetylene bottle filled last time.

Both hangers are in my scrap pile, torched them off an punched out the rivets yesterday. New bushings arn't gonna be here till tomorrow though, they wanted like $70 to overnight it, fawk that.

Gotta grind out the rivet holes though, they're sized around 3/8 and I have 1/2" bolts. But I've done this before... lol.

I've found that 7/16" bolts fit perfectly... If you can find a hardware store that carries 7/16" that is.

I know a place that probably has 'em, but the only transportation I have right now is my mountain bike or my boots. Plus I have a box of 1/2" grade 8 bolts sitting in the garage.

So yea, got the holes drilled out on one side an started putting the bracket on and banged into the rear fuel tank on the seam and it promptly started leaking. So I got to go buy a syphon pump and pump out the tank. And the bracket still isn't on. I'm starting to think that maybe I should just stay away from vehicles for a couple months or something, lol.

If it only took one good bump to make it leak, it's probably better you discovered it now rather than driving down the road sometime...

Do those have metal tanks? I thought ford had learned their lesson about steel gas tanks by then? No?
