take out the upper cover of your steering column, on top of the ignition starter u will see a little copper piece with a plastic connector, remove this and the key chime will go out, u will only have a chime when the lights are on and the door open.

Thats great, but I would really like to get rid of the door dinger more than the key one

mmm thats a bit tricky then, u should try this: locate the beeper under the dash, and with a voltimeter try in each wire which one is the door dinger, then, cut that motherf*cker lol!!
i havent tryed this, but it might work
