got a 5r55e that needs to go back in my ranger after i swapped in a 4.0 from a explorer with a 4r70w from the same explorer. the problem is the 5r55e that i need to reinstall has heating problems. when put in park behind a running engine it makes the overdrive light blink on and off which i guess means the trans is overheating. is there anything i can do before i put it back in my rig that will solve this problem?

You guess a flashing o/d lamp means its overheating ??

Stop guessing and diagnose it. Get the code pulled and go from there.

BTW , 4R70W was never installed behind a 4.0. It'll be a 5R or 4R55E.

kinda hard to diagnose when its sitting on a pallet in the shop... should i put it back in and hope it doesnt break for a while?

the 4r55e is in it now and i hooked it all up and ran diagnostics in my college shop, made it work right so thats in there for now. going to rebuild the 5r55e and put it back in later down the road. thread closed.
