Did ford ever make a short bed 2nd gen 2wd and put a 4.0 in them? :icon_confused: I don't think so but, that's why I'm asking. I'm looking to do the 4.0 swap and I'm wondering how unique it would be.

They're hard to find, but yes that was done back then. It wasn't untill the later years they they started making the 4.0l impossible to get in anything other than an extended cab.

Sure did. I test drove one last September here in Calgary. Damn thing only had 60,000km on it, but the owner let it rust to hell (bed was mint, but the cab was toast). That truck was also the only 4.0L powered RBV I have come across without A/C.

It was a fun test drive! That little truck was quick!

how about gen 3 splash trucks? non extended cabs with the 4 liter? i havent seen too many. mostly 3 liters an 2.3s

guy I know has a 93 splash with a 4.0 m50d combo

I remember reading back in the day that that combo had a better power-to-weight ratio than the Chevy 454 SS pickup.

Not hard to beat a fullsize pickup with a 230HP big block with a garbage tune. :icon_rofl:

I can speak from experience when I say that a Ranger shortbox, regular cab combo is surprisingly light. The truck that I drove with the 4.0L/M5OD powertrain would bark the tires banging into third with ease! :D

I think there's one for sale right now in the for sale section. It's in indiana I think...

I had a gold one. I think the color was called champagne. it was a 91 2wd shortbox reg cab with a 4.0L and an automatic. XLT with a 60/40 cloth split bench, arm rest, premium 6 speaker cassette deck and A/C. no cruise control.

I outran a 350 powered vega and a 283 powered chevy luv with it. I paid 5200 for it in 1994 with 87,000 miles and sold it for $6500 1 year later with 116,000 miles because it was a hard to find 2wd short box reg cab with a 4.0L
