Yo I was wondering if anyone has insulated there truck do to rattles, and how much did it cost?

i used a product called fat mat on the inside of my 84. did wonders for sound. rides much quieter on the freeway. for 100 sqft i paid 139.00, its basically dynamat, but much cheaper. if you wanna get rid of rattles and vibration, get whats called rattletrap, its made by the same company, buts its double the thickness. google fatmat products. or go on ebay, thats where i got mine.

second skin and dynamat extreme are the top 2, but its quite exspensive to do the entire car. rammat is a cheaper alternative.

i posted on this on the inter section. but your subs and speakers shake the tub, or the door frame. making everything rattel thats connected to it. you dont really need to do the whole car just were everything sits. i put a 4 inch strip around the speaker holes kinda made a gasket with the stuff and never had a rattel. and i put in on the tub under and around were my sub is and the only thing that rattle is my change in the cup holder.

that stuff just stops vibrations from flowing thru everything. ie less noise. but you can stop it at the source and you dont need to dish out as much money.

if you have alot of road noise doing the hole thing will help cut that down, but save that and get a louder system.

at 3/4 volume i can open every window amd i can barely hear an 18 wheeler go by.

exactly. its much easier to hunt down every rattle. if its loose wire, then some double sided tape can fix that. door panel rattling, then add some pieces of foam. the only things that rattle in my truck is whatever is in the cup holder or glove box. so i just turn up the stereo.

sound deadening pretty much just deadens the panel. stuffs great for canceling road noise. youll hear a big difference in the lower frequencies.

this is true, but for the cost of something like at www.fatmat.com it wouldnt be worth chasing down every little rattle. plus it deadens the road noise. i mean, if you lift up your factory rug, theres about an 1/8 inch of foam for sound deadner. thats not a hell of alot. plus the dorrs are hollow, behind the seats, the roof. insulating these makes a huge diff

the plastic is rattling in the extended cab behind the box and maybe the plastic above the jumper seats

what do you think of using fiberglass movie sound stage insulating because I could probably find plenty of that?

if its soft enuff to wedge in there i dont see why not. but you have to stop it from making contact with what ever its hitting. i would also look at the push locks that hold it in place see if they have degraded or been pulled out 1 to many times.

maybe but it's a huge PITA to get out if you ever need to 'cause it hardens.

The object of sound insulation like dynamat is that it adds mass to whatever it's stuck to. By adding mass it moves the resonant frequency lower - hopefully low enough that the speakers can't hit the frequency and induce a rattle.

This means that the heavier the insulation, the better. A lot of it is made of some sort of very dense asphalt tar material. The spray foam insulation wouldn't be as heavy so wouldn't work as well. If you're just trying to mask road noise it would probably be ok, but again, it's a huge PITA to clean up.

lol forgot about that...concentrating too hard on why it wouldn't be an ideal sound insulation material
