I would like to get rid of the dredded one wheel peel, would it be a good idea to weld the spider gears on my 8.8, its the only vehicle i own, i just want to know if it would be a smart choice with the tires i have on it?

Axle Question

I wouldn't recommend anything you plan on driving daily, and on the paved road, be welded. But that is just personal choice.

My O2 & what I have.............

I'd put a mini spool in it if it's open...............hour job at most and you'd have true posi.............might chatter a lil' on hard turns, but would be fine otherwise.

I've got a 92 Explorer 8.8 posi w/3.73's ready to bolt in with springs here in TN, would like $300 for it if anybody's close & interested......

Don't weld it up. That will be the first step to you getting really tired of your truck.

Something you might try is a set of those cheap traction bars that bolt under the leaf pack. You can shim the snubber side of the axle that spins, or move it back toward the axle to make that side hit first when you accelerate hard. Or even preload it a little. What happens is that the side that loads up first gets the weight of the truck pushing down on it first and stops that wheel from spinning--by then the other side is loading too. With those tires you have, if you have a V6, I'll bet you can play with the adjustment enough to keep the tires from spinning at all under hard acceleration. You used to be able to get these bars for $30. I don't know anymore. Try Jegs or Summit.

I would just find a limited slip diff outta another ranger. Unless your 8.8 is out of an exlporer, then it will be 31spline and you will need one out of an explorer.

its a stock 8.8 that came in it, i think its already limited slip, but not sure though

Throw a Powertrax NO-SLIP locker in there, they're pretty damn smooth and no more one wheel peel. It uses sychro type things that keep it disengaged (no ratcheting) while turning unless you give it a lot of gas, then it will lock up, best of all it drops right into your current carrier.

Why do you think it's a L/S? Have you had the cover off? If so, did it look like this:

That is a 8.8 L/S carrier that I sold a few months ago....................
