I plow with my 1990 ranger on 33s with 4.56s and D28/7.5 combo. Everytime i get on it semi-hard i blow my drivers side front shaft. I have broken 4 of them in the last 4 months, which is when i did the gear swap. So now i have more torque going to that wheel and it obviously just cant handle it. Does anyone know of a fix for this?? I tack welded the Ujoint caps on the last 2 shafts. I have tried many different kinds of u-joints too

Therefore i am interested in a Fix or a Dana 35 TTB. I live in Northeast Ohio if anyone has a axle that i could buy off of them close. i have seen a few in the classifides section but i never get PMs back. 4.56 gear would be nice but if not i can regear it. Thanks for any help

I'd go with a D35 like you mentioned. The largest tire recommended to run on the D28 is generally a 31, and some people manage to break stuff with stock tires.

Swapping in a D35 will be by far the easiest and likely the cheapest too.

I think that is the road i am going to go down. Its not worth the time and money in this D28.

Know anyone selling a 35?

I broke a D28 shaft once. Was the last one before I installed a D35. I was on 31" tires at the time.

Don't bother trying to mod a D28.

yeah.... did yours break like mine are?

if i were you i'd just go find an explorer and get a d35 put in some 760x's and tack them in. you should be golden then. if you think your HARDCORE you can put a d44 ttb in it and go full width. trying to solve a d28's problems is like pissing into the wind if you get my drit

Anything over 31s is too big for the D28. A rear locker helps a lot in keeping the D28 alive, it makes the rear axle do most of the work, never managed to break mine with a locked rear on 31s with 4.10s.

When I decided I was going bigger than 31s I decided wasn't going to put a penny into the D28. I found a truck that was crushed by a tree and the owner helped me pull the axle for $50. I'm surprised you re-geared the D28, but you may be able to sell those to somebody...:dunno:

i got a d35 out a 93 exploder today. thanks for the input!
