Off-road shocks, need help

Hi everyone,

I'm new to Rangers, and just purchased a 2000 2WD I4 Ranger. The shocks are totally blown, and I'm looking for some special ones. I come from a big motorcycle background, and love being able to rebuild the suspension on my bikes. So my idea: install the simplest rebuildable shocks I can find.

I'm looking at Bilstein 7100s. Can anyone give me any advice for fitting these to all 4 corners of my truck? Or possibly any other suggestions?

dont spend that much on shocks for a stock truck..........

they're twice what you'd pay for your average shock, but better and rebuildable. They come as short as 8 inches.

Yeah, but it's not really worth spending the money on them if you don't upgrade the suspension too.
You need much more wheel travel in order to take advantage of the benefits such shocks would offer.

I would suggest Bilstein 5100s if you don't plan on upgrading your suspension. These are quality shocks that should easily last 5 years or more.

Go with fox oe replacement shox they are rebuildable and they are good for 0-3" of coil lift so you can use them on you stock truck or with 3" of coil lift

Only thing with Pro Comp shocks, a number of people including myself have bought them and they arrived missing a number of parts of the mounting hardware.
I finally got frustrated with trying to make some of the OE parts work on the Pro Comps, went to Sears and sent the Pro Comps back for a refund.

with out a doubt, go with fox shocks. when it comes time to rebuild the shocks, the parts are much easier and much cheaper than any other shock. bilsteins are more expensive to rebuild and it takes much longer to ship parts.

ive got a buddy in san diego who can get u a good deal and has parts out the ass. he may even have a set of used but rebuilt shocks for you.

I would go with king shocks over Bilstein any day..

Kings have aluminum bodies and if they get too hot, they expand. when they expand, the nitrogen mixes with the oil and the shock goes limp. then they dont serve their purpose. that happens under harsh conditions though so if your gonna do mild wheeling or just want a nice shock, Kings are ok.

i still recommend Fox or Sway-A-Way.

um right... we have been racing on kings for 7 years now and never had an issue with them expanding and mixing nitorgen.. we had sway aways before we switched to kings and they were crap.. had to rebuild them after every race and the bumps NEVER worked right
