wtf was burning?

MARAD Firefighting school for the Merchant Marine in Toledo Ohio. We were burning #2 fuel oil a.k.a. on road diesel. We got unbelievably lucky, it was the last week of march and the first 2 days were 70's. Luckily those 2 days were classroom days and walk through days. The following 2 days were in the teens and twenties with blowing snow, you wanted to be in that metal and cement burning structure.

The reason for using fuel oil for our burning materials is because that is what most of our ship board fires are going to be. Oh and we dont use foam like those pussy shore side guys, hell no we use H2O. Thats right, we put out gasoline, kerosene, and diesel with water.

thats actually really unsafe, it could spread the fire around and your problem doubles in size and flows under your feet, next thing you know your ass is on fire(yes, turnout gear can burn and nomex does melt, iv seen it happen)

you guys should really invest in a CAFS system in the near future


im big into firefighter saftey, i just usually make a lot of MVAs and RIT assignments
