installing new speakers

I recently bought four Pioneer TS-A6872R they work fine and my connections are solid but for some reason when all the speakers are in they don't work. If I take the back right speaker out but still leave it connected then the speakers on the right side work but as soon as I put it back in the pocket it stops working and it does the same on the left side. I thought it might be some sort of magnetic waves traveling through the cab so I cut up an old shirt and wrapped the speaker in that and that didn't work. how do I fix this or can I not have four of the same speaker in my truck?

if I take the back speakers out of the pockets but leave them plugged in they all work fine

ok! I may have it, theres a chance that if you dont have them all wired the same way that they cancel each other out. You need to make sure all 4 have the positives and negatives otherwise one speaker will be rising as the other is falling.

Yah check your wiring Its not as punk said about the rising and falling but the cause is the same

If you have a posative wire going to the negative terminal your grounding out the head unit because the negative terminal might go to the speaker chassis.

If the wiring at the speaker looks fine then check at the head unit one is wired wrong likely. Which explains why they work when out off the truck.

That doesn't make sense. How would being removed from the mounting point affect the speaker wiring? The wiring is right or wrong, not influenced by whether the speaker is bolted into place or not.

I'm a lot more suspicious that the exposed speaker wire connection is contact the metal of the cab.

But you are right fast on second thought the negative terminals are issolated from the speaker chassis

I agree - it sounds like it's grounding out. My point was that the wiring itself is fine, verified by pulling the speaker away from the mount. Perhaps the connections are just in a different spot with the new speaker. I'd try taping them for a quick test.

also agree... 99.99% sure its a grounded out terminal... is yours ext cab? I worked on one that would put the radio into protect (grounded) only during right turns. to fix= bend those speaker terminals back and cover with super 33 electrical tape.

The wiring is correct, it either works or it won't. And acually it will work if you hook a speaker up backwards, it will just fire incorrectly. But you guys are right, when he is sticking it in the hole it is grounding out somehow.

I fixed it the tape worked. All I did was tape the tab where the wires connect and now it works perfect. They sound great I bought mine at walmart for less than $60 a pair

Now that you've verified the source of the problem, I'd strongly suggest finding a way to permanently prevent it from happening. A little heat shrink on the exposed pieces should work great.

Sweet. I just bought 2 sets of these for $50 each shipped on amazon. Cant wait!
