D35 cant be geared to 513 or above.

Not to contradict, but I run 5:13s in my ttb 35 now. Sooo?

Not to say you can't go lower in a 44, but the option is available for the 35. Albeit maybe a slim chance in finding them now.

.

TTB works just as well as snow/mud plow as it does a diff.

True, the TTB does push a little more mud, but on the flipside it is much better armored.

TTB has a extra inner joint to fail

Because that inner joint sees very little operating angle compared to the outers, it almost never fails. I have never broken one, and Todd broke one only once (when it ran out of grease).

D35 cant be geared to 513 or above. since i will not be running a doubler or an atlas i have to go with at least 513s in both diffs to run 37s or 38s effectively even with a 4.0

My 35 is geared down to 5.13...

Evan you are welcome to come wheel with me and show me how stupid I am after i swap in the d44. If you prove me wrong, I will admit it.

It's not stupid to swap a 44 in, just don't expect too much strength gain, or gain in performance for that matter. The return on investment is much better with a 60.

My 35 has been welded for years now.

Failures many until I figured out how it should be set up. 760 joints with welded caps, then my hubs where getting blown. Instead of jeep hubs I went the 44 knuckle swap.

Now I don’t have problems. I mean I carry spare shafts with u joints pressed and welded in but if you wheel hard you know you will need this kind of stuff. And from what you say you do wheel hard.

But from your photos im not impressed.

fair enough. we will see how long it holds. it should be welded by the end of feb.

i always have spare shafts and joints.

Typically i dont get pictures when i am wheeling because i lack a camera bitch.

Todd, all i have to say is, mechanical failure and abuse are not a concern to me. I always seek out a challenge when i am on the trails.

if you find 513s mail them to me.

we will see what summer brings. but the old 2.9 and the b2 body will be history by august if not before.

Yeah, it's tough to get good pics. If I do remember my camera, usually I don't wanna stop and take pics when things start to get exciting.

Have they stopped making 5.13s for the 35? I just looked, and I can't find any. Maybe there wasn't enough demand.

from what i have read YES.

i usually only get pics of the post stupidity (doing something i should not of tried) carnage.

my last true "wheeling" trip i spent 8-10 hrs wheeling over the period of 2 days and did not take a single shot even with the camera being in my center console. over that weekend, I nearly rolled (did a wheelie during this), forced my radiator into my fan (replaced it within 5 hrs of busting it), added dents to just about every panel on my b2, etc.

everyone who wheels with me can vouch for hearing my b2 screaming at WOT while i bounce up and down trying to complete a challenge every time i go out.

While I normally support the D44 swap, with 38's and a hammer-ass driving style you'll likely be left with a pile of broken parts. Go one tons and do it right the first time.

some how my d35 has not failed me in 5 or 6 trips out with it being open. we will see how long it lasts welded....

thanks to a good lecture by junkie and evan i will most likely start building a 60 and wait 6 months to a year to do the swap. that is, unless i find a vehicle more suited for a d60 between now and then. i have a 4.0 5speed standard cab short bed 4x4 in mind....

IF anyone other than YOU (junkie) and Evan were debating this with me I would just discard it. BUT since it is you guys i will do some research into a d60 front and a 70 rear. my fears with a d60/70 combo is that I will still be running the 4.0 and that will be 1000 pounds more weight BEFORE i get 38s. I still do not have plans to run a doubler so i NEED to get all my gearing from my axles, hence the reason i am trying to keep the weight down. the tear down of the b2 is planned for august 1st and to be completed sept 1st. unless the funds are not there OR the b2s ole 2.9 pukes its guts before then. My other fear is the b2 body becoming so abused I start worrying about its integrity...

A 4.0L should have no problem moving a BII with 1-tons under it. You can get 5.38s for them even.
I've just seen too many people swap D35s for D44s (myself included) and then continue to break shit (even with the bling alloy shafts), and is why I've always said go straight to a 60. You'll be glad you did.

Plenty of demand.
Precision Gear apparently had some internal problems and is why they're backordered everywhere. Why no one else is manufacturing them though I'm not sure... :icon_confused:
5.13 is 2nd most popular ratio only to 4.56, followed very closely by 4.88.

d60 it is!

I will end up gearing it to 513s or 538s
my primary concern now is passing e-check in september so a 4.0 will most likely be installed first. anyone know off hand what the smallest rim size that will fit over the calipers of a d60 is? if i order new tires before i swap 60s i want to get them for a large enough rim. (i will get ranger pattern rims for whatever size it is) i believe it is 16 inch rims.

Yep, 16s should fit fine. I'd go 17s though, there are a ton more 37"+ tires available in this size (BFG MTs, Krawlers, MT/R, etc.).

sounds good. 17s it is then. i will be ordering 17s for the b2 then if i get tires before the 60 put in.
thanks guys.
