I just bought a 1988 2.9Liter is there anything that i should no that usually goes wrong or brakes easily?

Standard operating procedure would to change all fluids. unless you are certain that some have been addressed in resently.

just be aware of the coolant levels ...if it isn't staying full then...figure out where it is going....headcracking is a known issue
 
Replace all the fluids. I bought one with 85000 on it, swapped the fluids, and drove it cross-country a month and a half later. No problems at all. But watch for a leaky radiator.
