Lately I have been hearing about GM and Chrysler wanting to be bailed out and nothing about Ford. I'm confused and any ideas?

Ford is in alot better shape than GM or Chrysler. They were asking for money to be set aside IF they needed it. The others needed it outright.

Ford basically said "No Thanks" to a govt bailout.

They are in the best financial shape of the 3.

But mainly, the Ford family wants to retain control. They don't want the government to pop up and say, "Oh, by the way, we're in charge here now".

Ford is asking for the bailout also but Ford is saying they have enough money to make it through 2009, they only want the bailout as a precaution if they need it. when mullally took over he took out a loan to help with Fords restructuring cost.

youve no doubt heard of the "big 3" shutting down for a month, dont know if y'all have heard about honda. they are going to 3 day work (production) weeks for the month of january (so far) i work for a supplier and we are going to 4 day work weeks as of jan 5. honda workers do have the option of working the 2 "down days" per week, doing cleaning and painting ect. but i and the of where i work are limited to 32 hr work weeks. im just happy i have this much, could have been worse, at the end of shift tonight, papers were handed out and depending how long youve been there you may or may not have a job. i think a total of 29 out of 400 got laid off. mostly ones with 90 days or less of service. i will have a year in come jan 7. going to have to live as cheaply as i can. at least i have what i do have........for now.

Yeah Hondas 3 day weeks are going to hurt alot of people around here. I'm lucky for now that my job has to do with the motorcycle plant which even though it's closing after next summer is still working 40 hrs a week for now.

Last thing I heard, Ford has money for about a year, they are asking for "open credit" so if they need it they can get something. I was also reading that Ford all in all will be in much better shape than the other 2, they have money, dont need goverment bail out right now, they will benefit from the reworked union contracts (which is deprately needed) and supplier changes and renagotiations the other two will have to undergo.

I say Great! The less the government has their hands in things the better. Chrysler doesn't NEED it either they just don't wanna pull the money out of their pockets...

FORD basically has alot picking up for them right now. They are not just complaining about the current situation, their doing something. The quality of all the 09 models is incredible compared to anything made by any auto companies in the past 10 years. They are serious about saving their company, and are building their vehicles with pride again.

Today, working at Hertz, I prepared a lot of cars from our incoming new fleet. I drove somewhere between 30 to 40 2009 Explorers, and 5 Expedition EL's. 20 of the Explorers were Eddie Bauer Editions.

They are all SOOOO nice. Very refined. Cheap plastic crap around seats is now flush, sturdy, and secure; whereas last year I knocked at least 10 of them apart while preparing them for renting. The door handles are very strong compared to the 08's. And of course, they drive incredible.

You're making me feel 'so good' that I jumped in and bought an 08 when the rumor went around that it would be the last year. My personal feeling is that the quality of the 08 wasn't quite up with that of my ol 02. Not anything big that I can put my hand on, just the general feeling.

That being said, I still love the Ranger as it is a great truck and just the size I need. A bigger F-150 I'd pass on just because of the size.

I think Ford's involvement in the bail-out begging is that its competitors (GM and Chrysler) need it. If they fold up the common suppliers would be having real problems which will ultimately effect them. Rather unusual situation as they don't actually want any money or government involvement.

I personally think the bail out money is a disaster. They'll be back in 4 months wanting more and we'll have to give it to them now that we're committed. Just keep the ol' printing presses running cranking out more money. We'll never pay this all off in our or our kid's lifetimes.
