Anyone know where Allen D went. He has my money or my t-case(depends on how you look at it) and he has not returned any messages for the last month. I would like to hear from him or someone who knows him.

The last I heard he was having computer problems. That may be the reason.

I am not sayin he has run off yet, but he has had my money and not sent out the t-case I bought off him six weeks ago, so I am starting to wonder.

He also has my money for a 4.0 wiring harness and a couple other little things.

Last news I've heard from him was that he was sick of some sorts. Something about him spending a day in cold rain to fix a fuel leak.

I sent that payment out almost 1 1/2 ago. I really hope that he is doing alright, and everything is well.

But man, do i want my harness or money($150). I have neither the funds to look for another, nor the harness to use. I'm stuck.

After fighting to get a computer that would run for more than 15min for
more than two weeks I THINK it's "stable"

I finally had to give up on my Pentium3 computers because I couldn't make them run windows2000 and I couldn't make Win98 go online and actually load the pages.

So I now have a Pentium4-2.6GHz with 2gig of ram and it should stay "Stable"

Another issue Iwas having were all the tracking cookies and various spybots
that was slowing things down and that was a problem because the Win98
versions of the cleanup programs were no longer supported, thus I could
not get updated definitions for ads, Bots and viri without everything locking
up repeatedly.

I store everything on my computer.

Basically it boils down to my electronic dinosaurs.

Yeah, I'm now in the "modern age" with a P4 running Win2000....
But I WASTED an entire WEEK just trying to get WinXP to work.

I'm supposed to be getting a hand-me-down P4 2.4 Laptop
from a feiend, so I'll have a "Backup" for when something stops working.

It'll be a real treat if in the next few seconds after typing this when
I hit "submit" if my computer does NOT go into electronic convulsions
forcing me to cycle the power switch, which is basically all I've been
able to get it to do for several weeks.

Lastly I've been racking my brain for the last two hours trying to
remember my TRS password...

I'll have tracking numbers for everyone by tommorow afternoon or monday
at the absolute latest

You need a neighbor kid to hire as computer support. And if he can operate a lawn mower, that's a bonus.

The problem with the local "kids" is that I get funny looks when I mention 2000
and complete bafflement taking about Win98.

I cannot get over just how FAST this new computer is...

I went from a P3-500 running W98 to a P4-2.6 running W2k in one jump
This computer is EASILY 10times as fast...

what really bugs me is that I was into computers before the parents
of some of these "kids" were born... sadly I didn't "keep up",
so I'm dealing with a steep learning curves with lots of bumps in my way.

This is what's fawked up... You're forced to shitcan what could otherwise still be a perfectly-working computer because software makers said the hell with older OS versions (Win 98/ME) and now write stuff deliberately to only work on XP and newer (Spybot S&D is the last antispyware prog left that will still work with the older OSs)
I finally broke down the other day as well and had to buy a new XP system to replace the ME one that's always served me well. :annoyed:

.

BTW, FWIW, the only thing those "cleanup" programs can really be relied upon for is to simply inform you that you've actually become infected with something. Once your system is compromised (cookies excepted), the ONLY way to be sure you've rid yourself of everything is to format the drive & reinstall Windows (or reinstall from a known-good backup). This is why its ALWAYS crucial to do regular backups of your files.

Linux anyone???

Ubuntu runs just fine on my 9 year old 900 mhz old laptop...and you should see how fast it makes my brand new 1.6 ghz netbook run, when compared to xp.

I agree with Simple here. Unless you are running highdollar CAD or image editing software, why not switch to linux?
Super easy to install nowaday with newbie friendly distros like ubuntu, web surfing is fast and basically 100% safe, no threat of adware, spyware, etc etc. I just checked my uptime(how long linux has been loaded without reboot) and it was at 27 days. The only time I reboot is for kernel upgrades of importance...have yet to have a total crash.

I tired to install ubuntu, I down loaded it from several different sites and every one was missing the same file that caused my laptop to lock up during install...........

The issue with Linux, Ubutu or something else is that they don't necissarily suppor the apps I NEED to run.

OR I wind up forced to BUY some app that doesn't work the way I want it to.

Frankly aside from online communication, Forums and E-mail
my computer is used mostly for audio crunching.

My ripping app is a pre-beta program called "Exact Audio Copy"
(EAC V0.99PB4 to be specific) which I also use to burn Audio CD's
(CD-Text actually)

My compression program (to make mp3's from WAV's) is
commercial software NCH "Switch sound", which is a stand alone compressor/converter.

I use a freeware id3 tagger program, Tagscanner 5.0

and finally I use an earlier version of Roxio to burn playable
mp3CDs (for use in my truck) and burning archive discs
Currently these take the form of single layer DVD's...
But when I have time and ambition I'll be upgrading to newer
DVD burning software.

Belatedly after going through much of the recent aggrevation
it was realized that during some 3:30am working on the #%W$!?&
computer session, after a previous crash, I inadvertantly installed the
wrong version of IE, I used 5.0 instead of 6.0

IE5.0 won't even finish loading ebay pages without getting hung-up.
and when I say "hung up" I mean Control-Alt-Del woundn't resolve
the situation....

that is if the keyboard and mouse would even respond...

Often only cycling the power switch would do anything...
