Stock 06 Ranger Headlights vs. Sylvania Silverstar Ultras????

How do the stock 06 Ranger headlights compare to the Sylvania Silverstar Ultras???? Is it worth the money?

IMO the silverstars are worth the money, ive used them on a few different vehicles and there's an obvious improvement. sadly they are very fragile and about $60 for the pair.

I've yet to ever see ANY of those supposed "brighter" bulbs last half as long as regular bulbs. They're hardly any brighter either, just a little different color light because it's filtered by the colored glass bulb.

If you need more light than stock, a set of auxiliary lights will make a FAR bigger lighting improvement than bigger bulbs in the stock lamps will. Please use lights with actual FOG lenses if you wish to use them where oncoming traffic is present though, so called "driving" lights cause almost as much glare for others as your hi-beams do.

i like the silver star series lights, i just replaced my first set that i bought 4 years ago, and they lasted this long with no problems, that and that fact that before i would get about a year if i was lucky with regular bulbs from all the shaking and vibrations from offroading, just my 2 pennies though results very

i've had all sorts of different bulbs in, i have had the silver stars, ive had the night hawks but now i have the PIAA ultra whites in there now and those are freakin bright lol bright enough that ppl in cars cars flash me all the time to where its kinda annoying but for brightness they do their job i guess lol

i put a set in my '00 one night b/c i was driving down a main road and both my headlights went out at the same moment, nothing wrong just coincidence and i was right next to an advance auto so i got em and havent had a problem in like 3 1/2 yrs.

ive noticed them brighter but most of all i like the color difference, they dont have that yellow glow to them so thats pretty much what did it for me.

That means you need to AIM your lights properly.


As for Silverstars, a friend of mine bought those and they lasted about 1½ years, where standard bulbs always lasted him at least 3 years.
I've tried a few variants of brighter bulbs myself and have had similar luck (don't recall the name, they were Sylvania incandescent "xenon" bulbs (instead of halogen), they lasted the shortest of any, about 10 months).

i bought those there worth it i have to clean my headlights alot cause they gather shit on the front of them and i jsut wax them off with headlight cleaner but there bright there alot nicer than stock

I've had Silverstar Ultras in my 91 ranger for 3 years now without problems. They've put up with 3 years of 4x4ing so I wouldn't call them fragile.

Silverstars are standard wattage bulbs, there's no reason they should be more failure prone. However, as cheap as HID has become over the last couple of years, I wouldn't even consider spending the money on high dollar bulbs. $50 on a good set of bulbs or $100ish for HID's that consume less power, produce twice the light, and are more durable? Easy call.

i went HIDS and never gone back... lol i see them on ebay all the time for like $70-$80 and i know many people who have baught them and they work amazingly.

be careful with the cheaper HID kits. make sure you read the descriptions carefully. ive seen HID kits on ebay for 100-150 bucks but they are not a full headlight kit they are only low beams. make sure you check to make sure they are dual beam (high/low) lights.
