Yeah that is right, We build automotive componenets, the plant ALREADY has a real early christmas shutdown on the 18th thru the 5th.

We have ten people working our two lines, SIX just got noticed of the layoff! They go by seniority and will be replaced with higher senior operators, and I was was hired ONE MONTH before one gal that did get laid off.

CLOSE CALL, and I am next in line! :shok:

Welcome to the club,sux huh.

Yeah, close...but if the dryer is on the bottom and the washer is on top and you bend to the left...lol!

I was laid off a year ago so I know the feeling...sucks big time...

I've had one heckuva year... I got laid off a month ago. I worked for a national chain for autobody supplies and parts. We got bought by another company and they shut down our shop. For good. I've been complaining about the autobody biz for awhile, so now I guess this is it. I'm done. Bled out. Played my last card. Have nothing to show for it but a bad back and a singlewide trailer. 'Bye.

That sucks, I am just lucky to make gears for caterpillar transmissions, we have slowed down in the last couple of months but until 6 weeks ago we were working 6 and 7 days a week, we still have a lot of orders planned but cat has scaled back their orders for the next couple of months.

is thay part of the year end inventory? my step-brother works for joy mining and machenery and he said yesterday it's slow till the first of the year.

sorry to hear about so many layoff's this time of the year, it don't look tp promising in the next 4 years either..

Not so much end of the year inventory as Cat has had their sales projections scale back so they have scaled back there orders as a result, the shop I work at still has mad around 38 million this year and they have about another 25 million already slated for 2009 plus we get more orders every day, we currently are making prototypes for a brand new trans they are developing. We also make gears for allison transmission and might be getting buhler, a new customer that sells well in europe.

glad to hear that . joy seems to be lazy in wanting less parts to count so they don't order much till the first of the year:icon_rofl:

early christmas here also we get 13 days off strait and there may be layoffs in jan-feb as cutomers have been calling and cancelling orders that totalled over 2 million in sales

This Big 3 Bailout and economy situation pisses me off. Good luck to all of you and your jobs. We are all an interwoven web...

I hope not. Getting laid off sucks. We make metal stampings and are down to only three presses running as of now and the forecasts for the first of the year are not very promising. Right now we are building two new tools that aren't scheduled to begin production until late '09. The only good news is my employer has no mortgage and owns every piece of equipment so they can afford to have the press room guys and gals on clean-up and maintenance duty up to the christmas shutdown.
