I have a 88 Ranger XLT 2.9 EFI Eng, A4LD Transmission & looking to find out how to identify the type of Transfer case. The problem I have is, while driving down the road yesterday (22Nov08) the trans gave out.
Checked the trans fluid, added 2 Qts & as adding the 2nd qt, it was noticed the tranny fluid was coming out of a vent tube near the back of the trans.
I spoke with a Ford friend earlier today, described the problem to him of what happened & so forth. He explained that I have the A4LD Trans & the front seal of the transfer case went to lunch. I spoke with 3 different parts stores today, & all 3 asked what type of transfer case is in the truck, but ni ine (including myself) knows how to ID the transfer case at all.
Any help would great. Engine problems I am ok with, however when it comes to transmissions, I am totally lost.
