I am not sure where to post a gear question, so here goes. I want to go bigger tires on my truck, maybe a 33". will my 3.27 stock gears really suck on the highway? If I have to change gears, what gears should I look into getting? I have 31" tires now and the gear is fine, I just don't want to regret going to big just to look good and hate driving the truck.....I drive the highway everyday.

3.27 gears suck with stock tires. 33s+4.0=4.56
 
How will the do on gas mileage? Sounds a little low
 
Probably better then it does now....4.56's are too high for my 35's, they're perfect for 33's. You can spin more RPM with less work and get better mileage. My guess would be around 20mpg highway and 17mpg city doin the speed limit.

my 2wd got 19 on the highway doing 70. Personally I feel 20mpg is aiming a little too high with a lifted 4x4. That was with 3.73 and stock size tires. My MPG went down when I went lower in the gear ratios, as the truck previously had 3.08s.

I do agree however that running 4.56 with 33s is a good idea.
 
Well, if a gear swap is a must if I step up in tire size, should I get a taller tire, like a 35 or is that over kill? Would that even fit with a 4" suspenion and 2 body?
 
35's will fit with your current lift. You may have to trim some sheet metal when you flex. If you are going to go to 35's then you should consider 4.88's.
 
Depends what you want to do with your truck. Personally, I'd get 33s and use the money saved from not getting 35s and invest in a locker, making the truck much more capable than 35s alone.
 
Yeah, I think 35s are a little big, especially since it seems this is a primarily street driven truck.

I already installed a trac loc out of a mustang...kind of fun to burn a donut in a truck on dry pavement:headbang:

Pretty much I just want a truck I can DD and look good in and on occasion take it off road. What will the stock axles hold tire size wise if i start beating on it?
 
That depends. Being locked up front can shorten the life of front axle parts if you wheel regularly, or if it is improperly set up. 35s are usually seen as sort of the limit for the D35, but it really depends on how and what you wheel.
