Excursion #2 Saturday (paved roads)

A. Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine - $22. buy tickets online. group tour for 15 or more.
B. Alfred Beckley Mill
C. Whipple Company Store (maybe open as museum)

Please make a decision on that one. That was one of my plans for the trip. I was going to hit the road tuesday evening and tack an extra day on front of the trip, plan was to see that and try to see the Greenbrier and do the shelter tour. If a group is going, it'll be easier to hit the greenbrier and maybe check out some other stuff.

Generally, at gatherings like these we have split up into groups, don different things as a group based on interests, and then meet up at a specific time and place to have dinner. Usually it's at the campground, but we've met up at restaurants before.

I like having options and then grouping up with people instead of everyone being forced to do the same thing.

Perhaps I should have worded it differently. If there is a group planning to go, please let me know. I'll go then instead of going myself before the event. Otherwise, I'll get tickets and go before.

If I'm not doing both before the event I can take my time more at the Greenbrier, and maybe see some other stuff in that area.

Yes. Maybe I worded something in a confusing way. But, I plan on leading both excursions. My current plan is excursion 1 on Friday and excursion 2 (all 3 stops) on Saturday, unless there is a strong consensus to do #2 on Friday and #1 on Saturday.

(Don't say it, Petroleumjunky. I know what you're thinking)

I would enjoy Greenbrier, some day, too. I drove past it last year on my way to Cass, WV.

UT Kilts, best deal out there for a decent utility kilt that won't fall apart after a couple of washes. Most of the ones on amazon are made in Pakistan and you get what you paid for.
My Overkilt came from DNKE and I’ve been happy with it, but they’ve been out of stock of everything I’d want in my size all summer

Copy that. I was reading those as more potential suggestions (which they were), than as an itenerary (which they also were).

I'll definitely tag along for that day which ever one it ends up being.

It's the closest I'll ever have been driving, isn't that far out of the way, and who knows wnen I'll ever be back in the area. I'll probably stay Wednesday night near the Grenbrier and do that Thursday morning before heading to the cammpground for check-in.

Didn't want to do the whole drive up in one day anyway. Now it's a question of if I leave early Tuesday afternoon and stop in North GA for the extra night, or earlier Wednesday and and stop closer to WV. It'll probably depend on what I find that I want to see between here and there.

It looks like most of their stuff is out of stock. The overkilt doesn't appeal to me but neither does regular overalls.

I wanted to try the OverKilt for something to work in. Tuck tools in the pockets. Actually wore it to the Renaissance festival thing this past weekend, had a few people say I looked like a blacksmith

Other than the usual one big event the forum does every year, the others tend to all be done as a group from what I've seen. With the planning @Curious Hound does for events like this, you won't be disappointed.

The old Hound Dog is pretty good about scouting these things out ahead of time and having a list of points of interests. He's even organized treasure hunts in the past.

He's also churned homemade ice cream at the campground and helped @Uncle Gump make pizzas over the campfire to feed the group.

However, go easy on the guy. He's still recovering from his heart attack. Given everything he's done in the past for us, we should be doing things for him to make this trip more relaxing and enjoyable.
