Inertia switch necessary?

Update; I went out to unscrew the switch from the firewall in the cab and found out that I had already pondered this issue a few years ago and made my decision at that time. Good enough. I'll just keep on keeping on.

I wasn't really worried. I just wanted to give it due diligence. Find out if there were aspects I hadn't thought about. This has been a good discussion so far and it may help ease someone else's mind in the future.

I leave them until they start causing problems. Usually that involves high resistance in the switch or connector and something melts, seems to be the connector almost always.

Good theory in concept, how well it works in practice remains to be seen. My kid rolled his Ranger and it did not trip the switch. Fuel drained out of the filler neck instead. It was a fairly low speed roll over so maybe that contributed but it should still have done its job as intended.
