Frantz Bypass Oil Filter System - Thoughts?

Finally found a photo of a factory 4.0l SOHC oil cooler actually hanging on the engine.

I think its worth borrowing one off of bezos to see if it fits. Having trouble finding the hollow bolt that goes up through it though.

Would give options on using it as is, or making an oil filter extension housing.

Looks like if you got a Ford one it comes with a free oil cooler, I don't see it shown separately.

I think the part number for the cooler is 1L2Z-6A642-FA... not sure about the bolt. May have to go to the junkyard, or at a minimum create an account in explorer land and ask around.

I know recently Ford is big on one use hardware, it could be a similar situation back then where they didn't even offer it seperate.

So, talked to local ford dealer. You are correct, it came with the insert. Isn't otherwise available, but is re-usable.

There is one at the local Napa. $700.

They just drug a 2010 4L Eddie Bauer exploder into the junkyard this morning. Headed there this week/weekend to go harvesting.

Just an update: looked at ~10 explorers and two sport tracs in the junkyard. Out of the ones that had engines, none had the oil cooler.

Odd. Might be a southern thing? Years ranged from 2000-2010

Odd. The one junkyard I sometimes visit usually has a decent collection of Explorers and Sport Tracs, I’ll have to remember to look when I’m over there
