Can anyone elaborate what needs to be welded on the female side? I got a set of springs that are 15/16" inner diameter for the spring, but I need to know what needs to be welded? See the quote from the tech page below.

You need to modify the female yoke to keep the spring from blowing the cap off. You can put a few tack welds around the cap since it's just pressed in

Anyone have any pictures of what they did?

Sure... you ask this NOW! I just did that to mine this weekend and it's all together making it real hard for a picture. But, as they said, on the female side, there's a dust cap that is pressed on (if you look from the outter most to the inside at that yoke). All you gotta do is tack weld the cap to the yoke. It's best to do said welding when you have the joint out.

Thanks. I have all the axles out now, I just got to find the proper springs. I read that the springs has to be 1-3/8" ID so the one I have will not work.

I recomend NOT using an internal spring, if it bottoms out, something has to give. If you can get a spring close to the correct diameter you can make it bigger with a couple pairs of pliers like I did.

where did you get your spring from?

Local hardware/farm store. Was originally 1 1/4" OD, expanded to roughly 1 3/8" ID. You don't need to weld that cap if you are running an external spring.

Definately go with the external spring. I welded up the cap on mine and it blew out the first trip out.

The internal spring might work better on a street queen, but not on a truck that flexes the least bit.

Just a heads up, cause mine blew out and now I have to grind the welds off my u-joint caps, to get my axle out to put an external spring on. Save yourself the headache, don't do the internal spring.

Yeah, go with the external spring. I tried an internal spring and even with the cap tacked in 4 spots it blew out the first time I took it out.

about how long does it need to be? Is it 1" like the tech library says for the external spring?

Not sure on the length, maybe like 2-2.5 inches, it does need to be 1 3/8" inside diameter
