What did YOU do today?

Tried again to burn the brush pile. It just won't. Anybody got any suggestions for flamethrowers? LOL The pile is about 25ft wide so a thrower with 15 ft reach would let me get everything lit at once...

Used the hose I already had out to hose down the truck to remove a little mud. Apparently when I sprayed under the hood, water got somewhere it shouldn't have. Truck wouldn't even attempt to start. Fuel pumps were running, so it has to ignition related. Not too many things there. It did start after just a few minutes of working with it. Then wouldn't again a few minutes later. I pulled codes and got one interesting result.

452(M) Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) problem

IDK what that would have to do with starting though...

After it did start I rode down to the creek for a little gravel pile play and swimming. No problems driving through 8" of water..

The solution is obvious. Next time you clean the truck, turn it upside down when you hose it down.

I'm thinking about going out in a few minutes with a cup of water. Pour it over the crank sensor and test. If that passes do the same with the coil pack.

My thinking it doesn’t have anything to do with the error codes directly. There’s probably a loose or corroded wire connector somewhere that the water is getting into that is then causing no signals to go forth.

Napalm.

Worked more on the shop yesterday after dropping another hundred on steel at the local supplier. Also finished off the 10# spool on my Weld-Pak, but I also found my third 10# spool in my stockpile (apparently I moved it over on the far side of my tool chest instead of keeping it with the other two spools), so all is good there. I am starting to run low on contact tips though, have to put that on the list, I don’t think these Weldmark tips last as long as the Lincoln ones, might have to see about swiping a few out of my big welder.

My buddy Clayton stopped by last evening and brought a friend who is capable of welding and works as a mechanic. Unfortunately he’s a Chevy guy, but seems to be a decent fellow anyway. We sat out and grilled some food after I finished welding on the shop for the night.

Well, my oldest son's flight to Houston got diverted to corpus at 8pm last night and they weren't going to fly till 8am this morning. So since we were coming to Houston this morning, we picked him up. He and the wife wanted to drive to Houston last night so we left but it turns out his girlfriend lives in Galveston Island, which is an hour south of Houston.

So we got here at 1am.

It's farther to drive to Galveston than it is to drive to austin. That's amazing but it's because there is no straight shot here so we had to go all the way across Houston and then take 45 south.

Man, what a long drive

For the burn pile thing, I use a weed burner and leaf blowers... if stubborn pile some cardboard in under a section, have the weed burner in the area then add some air as needed... with this method you can burn wet branches immediately after cutting...

Trump negotiated the cost down about 30%. I think boeing sat on them until Trump was out of office the first time to go back to the well and get more money, but at that time those jets weren’t the priority of the government. I think Trump knocked this one out in six months to spit in their eye a little. Trump probably loves Boeing more than any other president, but the way he runs his government, it’s not a gravy train in my humble opinion. I hope this doesn’t throw me in the no politics doghouse.!
There is probably some of that in there but other aircraft they have built have been having a lot of issues, including ones that aren't custom jobs for the government. So, it not just a political thing. Their quality assurance as gone to crap.

I've had to do similar in the past. I just let the leaf blower idle while pointed at the base of the fire. It was enough to keep the fire going and keep the nozzle far enough away so it didn't melt the plastic.

Do you have a garden sprayer? That might work.

I just tried it. No effect. Weird. It was hard to start at first when I went out. I'm starting to wonder if it's switch or PCM relay related...
