ranger to ranger disc brake conversion??

No, drum in hat’s biggest weakness is rust. Followed closely by all the parts being hidden mostly behind the axle flange and the non-self-adjusting. It’s enough to make me consider things like a line lock on the brake lines or something a little more radical like trying to do a pinion brake and just gut the stupid drum-in-hat stuff

I have mulled line locks front and rear.

Lock all four tires for parking/winching and I could lock the rears for front digs. Explorer parking brakes don't hold to lock up the rears.

This too. I’m definitely doing line locks on my F-150 rebuild. Seriously considering it on everything else.

I feel like rust's never bitten me as long as I'm actually using it, and I say that living at the beach and using the truck to launch boats.

If the truck sits, or you never use the parking brake (most modern auto drivers) then go to use it once, that's when you get got.

Parts behind the axle is a pain, but as infrequently as it needs rebuilt, I just pull the shafts and be done with it.

All that being said, I would absolutely migrate to parking-brake-in-caliper if the path was clear and cheap.

Living in the rusty steel buckle of the rust belt, the problem isn’t just rust causing things to hang up or stick, it’s also trying to get the rotor off, even if you use it all the time it can build up a rust lip that then becomes a nightmare to get the rotor off
