^ He gets it.

I've had mine the truck twice. Once to get it home. And once to get it to the DMV for my road test. I couldn't afford the MSF course.

I did it several times. Even bought a folding ramp and tie it to the hitch so it can't slide away. Nope. Not worth the trouble.

And how about all those YouTube videos of people riding bimes, quads, jet skis, etc. Into and over the back of their trucks. I refuse to be that idiot.

Saw a guy once ride a 4 wheeler up ramps into the back. Ramps gave way at the perfect time to have him park the four wheeler straight up against the front of the bed like it was planned. LOL.

I’ve done it a bunch over the years. It’s not the fight to get it strapped in securely that gets to me. It’s just sketchy getting it up and down the ramps. There’s no way I could have gotten the 700 pound Vulcan out by myself today. Thankfully I had a friend to help as we fought to straighten it onto the ramps and guide it down very, very slowly.

Now I just have to figure out what the heck is going on with the transmission. It jumps out of gear like it’s been abused, but usually that affects a specific gear (typically second on these). But it’s doing it in first through third. Maybe the others also, I just can’t confirm that at the moment.

Sounds like the shift drum is slipping somehow.

Without moving, how did anything give? Unless the clutch slipped at that point enough to unload the transmission and allow it to "fall" out of gear. I feel like a teardown is in your future. Shaft drive adds a few more things to check.

You should start a thread when you do tear into it. I'd be interested in what you find.

Clutch didn’t appear to slip at all. I just progressively let it out/added throttle until it began ratcheting like that.

Honestly I might not tear into it. Bought it playing the odds that I might find something simple. Splitting the cases is more than I really want to dive into right now. I can probably cut my losses on this without losing anything and find a quicker project.
