2007 Red Trailer 4X8 Utility Trailer

That's a great looking little piece of steel you got there! I noticed there's a low angle of approach with the rear. Is this a trail rig? You said woods... I'd love to see the kind of maneuvering you can do with it!

It can handle fire roads and maybe some light off roading (medium if you want to push your luck). Mine has been beefed up some since I bought it in 2007 but in the end, it is still a Chinese kit trailer along the lines of a Harbor Freight or Northern Tool trailer.

They were never meant to leave the road. We saw an example of why in Colorado last year. In the middle of one of the mountain passes were were crossing, there was a broken Harbor Freight trailer along the side of the trail.

Because of the low departure angle, it does have either 3/16" or 1/4" wall rectangular tubing to act as a rock slider of sorts and to protect the stabilizer jacks in the back. The approach angle isn't all that great either, especially with the long tongue.

I have had it on fire road type trails before and trails through the woods more suited for ATVs and side by sides. There have also been times I drove right through the trees with no trail.

If you have read through the thread, you will note that it does not have a conventional ball and coupler hitch anymore. The Lock N Roll hitch is much more flexible and stronger. It also allows me to practically jack knife the trailer, if I need to in order to clear obstacles or make tight turns. I also don't have to worry about an angle being extreme enough to pop the coupler off of the ball. The downside is that I could flip the trailer and still have the tow vehicle up right.

A proper off road trailer will have either a welded square or rectangular tubing frame instead of C channel and bolts and better ground clearance. Most also tend to be smaller than 4' X 8' as well. While you can off road with a trailer, they tend to be an anchor to the vehicle towing it. And it's one more thing to repair if something breaks. Jeep owners like them because the storage capacity of a Wrangler sucks.
